The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were represented by Air Chief
Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, Chief of the Air Staff, at a service of
thanksgiving for the life and work of Marshal of the RAF Sir John
Grandy, Chief of the Air Staff, 1967-71, Governor and
Commander-in-Chief, Gibraltar, 1973-78 and Constable and Governor of
Windsor Castle, 1978-88, held 1 April, 2004, at St Clement Danes,
Strand, London.

The Prince of Wales was represented by Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard
Johns, Governor and Constable of Windsor Castle, Princess Alice
Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester by
Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Simon Bland, the Duke and Duchess of Kent by
Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire, Prince Michael of Kent by Group
Captain Carl Dixon and Princess Alexandra by Rear-Admiral Sir John
Garnier.

The Rev Chris Long, Resident Chaplain, officiated, assisted by the Ven
Ron Hesketh, Chaplain-in-Chief, RAF, who led the prayers and
pronounced the blessing.

Mr Ben Grandy, grandson, read Reflection and Mr Nicholas Bourne,
step-grandson, read his own work, Gift of Life. Air Commodore Reggie
Spiers gave an address.
During the service Sir John's medals were borne in procession from the
West Door to the Altar by Mr Ben Grandy, Mr Alexander Grandy and Mr
Rollo Grandy, grandsons.
