Edward Parr Wiltshire, CBE, British Consular official and entomologist,
has died at the age of 94. He spent more than 40 years in the Consular
service - mainly in the Middle East.

He was born 18 February, 1910, son of Major Percy Wiltshire, by his
wife Kathleen Olivier Lefroy Parr Wiltshire, and was educated at
Cheltenham College, and Jesus College, Cambridge.

Career: he entered the Foreign service in 1932, and served in Beirut,
Mosul, Baghdad, Tehran, Basra and New York (one of HM's Vice-Consuls
1944); promoted Consul, 1945; transferred to Cairo, 1946 (actng
Consul-General there 1947-48); transferred to Shiraz (having qualified
in Arabic and subsequently in Persian); Consul at Port Said, 1952; 1st
Secretary and Consul at Baghdad, 1952; Rio de Janeiro, 1957; promoted
Counsellor, 1959; Political Agent, Bahrain, 1959-63; Consul-General at
Geneva, 1963-67; Director, Diplomatic Service Language Centre, London,
1967-68; worked for Council for Nature (Editor, Habitat), 1968-69;
Consul at Le Havre, 1969-75.

His publications include 'The Lepidoptera of Iraq' (1957); 'A Revision
of the Armadini' (1979), &c.

Mr. Wiltshire was appointed CBE in 1965.

He married in 1942, Gladys Mabel Stevens, by whom he had one daughter.
Mrs Wiltshire died in 1995.
