Sir John Conant, 2nd Baronet, landowner and farmer, died 10 January, 2024, aged 100.

Educated at Eton and Corpus Christie College, Cambridge (BA in agriculture); he served in the Grenadier Guards 1942-45; at CCC Cambridge 1946-49; he farmed in Rutland from 1950, and was High Sheriff of Rutland in 1960. His home was near Oakham in Rutland.

He was born 24 April, 1923, son of Sir Roger John Edward Conant, 1st Baronet, CVO (1899-1973), and his wife the former Daphne Lorraine Learoyd (1898-1976); and succeeded to the baronetcy (cr 1954), on his father's demise, 1973.

He married firstly, 16 September, 1950, Periwinkle Elizabeth Thorp (1929-1985), daughter of Dudley Barker Thorp (1880-1950), of Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire, and his wife the former Doris Thorp (1889-1969); married 2ndly, 1992, Mrs (Mary) Clare Attwater, younger daughter of William E. Madden, of Petersfield, Hampshire.

He leaves issue from his first marriage, two sons, Simon and William, and two daughters, Fiona and Melanie, from his first marriage (and one son deceased). His eldest surviving son, Simon Edward Christopher Conant (born 13 Oct, 1958), succeeds as 3rd baronet.
