Capt. Maurice Kildare Caveagh-Mainwaringm DSO, President of the Second
Admiralty Interview Board, 1955-56, and later Naval Attache at Paris,
died 9 January, 2003. He was 94.

He was born 13 April, 1908, the younger son of Major James Gordon
Cavenagh-Mainwaring, of Whitmore Hall, Staffordshire, by his wife,
Evelyn Dutton Green & was educated at the Royal Naval College,
Dartmouth.

Career: DSO, 1940; specialised in submarines 1930-46; served in WW2;
Joint Services Staff College, 1951-52; HMS St Angelo & Flag Captain to
the Flag Officer, Malta 1952-54; President, Second Admiralty Interview
Board, 1955-56; Naval Attache at Paris, 1957-60; a Naval ADC to Queen
Elizabeth II, 1960; retired from the Royal Navy, 1960.

Cavenagh-Mainwaring received the Cross of Merit Sovereign Order,
Knights of Malta 1955; Comdr Legion d'Honneur, 1960.

He married, 15 February, 1933, Iris Mary, only daughter of
Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Albert Denaro, OBE, of Valletta, Malta, by
whom he had one son, Charles Rafe, born in 1944.

The funeral takes place at Whitmore Church, Whitmore, Staffs, 17
January, 2003.
