Skidmore was best known for being the voiceover on the British dating gameshow Blind Date from 1985 to 2002. It was the host Cilla Black who gave him the nickname of Our Graham. He was replaced on the final original series in 2002–2003 by Tommy Sandhu, and by Melanie Sykes on the revived version on Channel 5 from 2017 to 2019, hosted by Paul O'Grady.

Skidmore also held a similar role as voiceover artist on BBC2's Shooting Stars with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. His voice could be heard introducing the contestants and announcing the prizes in series 1–5. Aside from this, he also voiced several commercials on television and radio. He appeared in person on The Justin Lee Collins Show, as part of the 'Blast from the Past' segment.
