His Honour (Graham Franklyn) Bruce Laughland, QC, Bencher of the Inner
Temple, and a former Circuit Judge, died at his home, 1 May, 2002,
aged 70.

He was a Circuit Judge, 1989-96, at the Central Criminal Court.

Bruce Laughland was born 18 August, 1931, third son of Andrew and
Constance Laughland, and was educated at King Edward's School,
Birmingham, & Christ Church, Oxford (MA).

He served as a Lieutuenant in the 8th Royal Tank Regiment, 1954-56,
and was Called to the Bar at the Inner Temple, 1958. Bencher 1985;
Deputy Chairman, Buckinghamshire Quarter Sessions, 1971. Standing
Counsel to the Queen's Proctor, 1968.

Laughland was a Recorder, 1972-89; First Prosecuting Counsel to the
Inland Revenue (Midland and Oxford Circuit), 1973-77; acting Judge of
the Supreme Court of the Falkland Islands, 1985.

He was a Member, General Council of the Bar, 1970; Treasurer, Midland
& Oxford Circuit, 1986-89; Chairman Westminster Association for Youth,
1984-89, and was Liveryman, Curriers' Company, from 1992.

Judge Laughland married firstly, in 1969, Victoria Nicola Christina
Jarman, (who died in 1994), by whom he had one son, Francis. He
married secondly, in 1999, Jacqueline Marie Bakes-Bradbury.

A Memorial Service is to be arranged at The Temple Church.

Laughland was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1977.
