Robert Peter Fawcus was born 30 September, 1915, son of the late A.F.
Fawcus, OBE, & was educated at Charterhouse, and at Clare College,
Cambridge.
Career: served in the RNVR 1939-46 (Lieutenant-Commander); joined the
Colonial Service (District Officer, Basutoland), 1946; Bechuanaland
Protectorate: Government Secretary, 1954; Resident Commissioner, 1959;
HM Commissioner, 1963-65; retired 1965.
He published "Botswana: the road to independence" in 2000.
Fawcus, who retired to Killin, Pethshire, was appointed OBE in 1957,
CMG in 1960, and KBE in 1964.
He married in 1943, Isabel Constance Ethelston, by whom he had one son
and one daughter.
Lady Fawcus died in 2001.
A Memorial service takes place at St Fillans Episcopal Church, Killin,
17 May, 2003.
