What does the phrase "Better than half price" mean? Does it mean more
than half price or less than half price?

If you are an optimist it means less than half price. A pessimist, on the
other hand, would assume it to mean more than half price. An idiot wouldn't
know the difference.

I have often wondered if that meant my life. Since nowadays people live
longer than companies the claim is nugatory.

If you read the small print a "lifetime guarantee" often means a lot
less than a lifetime. Many companies also have a clause saying they
can honour the guarantee "at their discretion" which means that they
can get out of honouring the guarantee at all. BTDTGTTS.

I came across it in the famous 3M tape adverts some years ago, with the
skeletons still using their Scotch video tapes.

Its meaningless because it means the lifetime of the product, which, of
course is when the manufacturers deem it not repairable and could be any
time at all.
