Sorry for a dumb question, but does a day = 24 hours after the payment
has been cleared (paypal). I assume for cheques you tell ebay when your
cheque has cleared
Are there any penalties for saying 2 days? I see this is "the seller
will *aim* to post within X days". Does the value of this setting
affect your ratings or search results in any way?

1 day = 24 hours in my book. If I was paid by cheque I'd inform the
buyer that they must wait for clearance before dispatch. If the value
was £20 or less I'd still send before it did clear.
However, I think its been about 18 months since I last received a
cheque.

I have it in my listings that I aim to post within two days but I always
post within one.

If anything, it improves feedback rating as the buyer receives it sooner
than expected. As for search results I haven't noticed any problems.
