Cancelled bid due to adverse feedback and bidder asked why. I informed him
it was due to feedback and that I am sure he would find what he was looking
for from less discerning sellers, here's his reply.

>I ONLY buy off discerning sellers.
>~ shame your'e not discerning ~
>you do not merit my custom; Your Loss.

Do you think I should send him a link from www.dictionary.com explaining the
meaning of the word discerning?

God, I'm relieved that there are other loons out there apart from mine.

I'm new to ebay and I posted my first item today, a bird cage. I thought I'd
keep the tone of the post light and jokey, but mentioned that my budgie had
died (hence the sale).

Within an hour, I get an email saying: "the only person responsible for the
death if the animal is you."

Is this normal? Because I'm starting to get a sinking feeling that it might
be...

Oh my god, what an idiot. But there are nice buyers out there as well, trust
me. I have sold items on ebay for 6 months now and most of the persons I
have been doing business with, are nice and friendly people.

Yes, the thing with Ebay is that whenever you think you have experienced the
idiocy of the world - someone will come along and prove you wrong.

Checked out your listing (2370566712) which made me chuckle.

"Just think, for an incredibly reasonable price, you could have a whole host
of tiny birds squawking at your every move for no reason whatsoever. What
could be better?"

My cat was quite keen for me to put in a bid on this item...

Although I currently have a 100% feedback after over 500 transactions I
have had dealings with one or two eBayers who are a couple of bids short

Indeed. I have one at the moment. Made no contact at the end of auction -
his AOL address bounces I think I've got a NPB on my hands. Paid with
Paypal at the 3 day reminder, still no personal contact; I posted next day
(18th). Then the idiot waits a week (til Xmas Eve) to tell me that his
ebay address is incorrect and that I should have sent to the (different)
address attached to Paypal account (his AOL address now working,
mysteriously). I have an e-conversation with him, and think he's satisfied
that the goods will come back to me and I can re-send to the different
address. No request for refund, no complaint from him. Next thing I know,
I get a Paypal complaint investigation, dated New Years Eve, about goods
not received. Try to email him, get bouncing AOL address again, so I've
emailled the address attached to the Paypal account he paid with.

The Paypal email gives me choices of resolution, where I either provide a
tracking number (I only have a POP cert), proof I've refunded, or paid
buyer back other ways. Nowhere is there a box to tick saying 'I dispute
this complaint, give me a real email address where I can send you copies
of the email correspondence showing the buyer neglected to give me
information in good time, seemed happy with the solution offered, and POP
cert scan'

Its a lot of hassle over Ł8.70 :o(

AOL arbritarily and randomly put blocks on many mainstream ISPs because they
think they are spamming their users. I think over the last 6 months every
main ISP has been blocked at one point or another. It's not really your
fault and nor is it your customers (unless you count that fact that he is
not using a proper ISP).

I send every email to AOL customers through www.readnotify.com as they
always seem to get through. Worth bearing in mind next time you have an
AOLer winning any of your auctions.

Hah!! That's nothing. I received death threats and abusive phone calls last
week from a woman I refused to home a puppy to.
Incidentally, do you know what the budgie died of? Something like pbfd or
any other nasty disease, would still be on the cage and could kill any other
bird placed into it.

No, according to the vet, he died of stress - his owner died and he didn't
like all the changes; besides, I never actually got him into the new cage -
he was sickening and I didn't want to change anything else in case it
worsened his condition. However, I've washed and disinfected (with bird-cage
disinfectant) the cage, just in case of any airborne viruses.
