I would have thought only the seller would have access to this information.

Or is it a crock, and not accurate.

The eBay SDK includes a load of stuff that isn't available through the
standard web interface. The FindPopularItems API call includes
WatchCount for each item it returns.

Handy for restoring the missing ebay info.
The number of views/watchers is a useful indicator as to whether
something might be worth tracking or not.
