Ordered something on Wednesday and delivery was stated to be Thursday; I
picked Argos because I knew I wasn't going to be home most of Thursday.

I didn't mind much when they checked the item over and actually shipped
on Thursday.

Have been in receipt of several ParcelFarce SMS today which assume the
delivery is to me, and not my local Argos store.

Their tracking says it was delivered there a little before 4pm, but
Argos have not themselves messaged me to say I can come and collect
(they are open until 5.30pm).

I'll be up there at 9am tomorrow - should be fun.

Are other collection services like Amazon lockers and Doddle as
dysfunctional as this?

Yes - or at least the Amazon locker system is.

I have scoured the site looking for stuff using "Delivered by Amazon" as
one of the seadrch filters, to be told repeatedly that "This seller
cannot deliver to an Amazon locker"

At least if you do a search on eBay using "Click and Collect" as a
filter it will only show you items which are Click and Collect
