School of Mathematics and Physics, Queen's University Belfast
This post, funded by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council,
is available immediately for up to 5 years, to work with Dr Stephen
Smartt in the areas of supernovae and their progenitor stars. Applicants
must hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD in astrophysics, have experience
of ground-or satellite-based astronomical observing, and expertise in the
reduction and analysis of astronomical data.
Resources will be made available to allow the successful applicant to
spend some of their time pursuing their own independent research
programmes.
The Astrophysics and Planetary Science Research Division at Queen's
University is a UK institute with full access to the UK's current range
of telescopes (e.g. ESO, Gemini, ING, UKIRT, AAT). It is an expanding
Division, currently with 6 faculty staff, 2 PPARC Fellows, and 17
postdocs and postgraduate students.
