Applications are invited for the above position at the Anglo-Australian
Observatory. The AAO is one of the world?s leading astronomical
facilities. It operates two major optical telescopes located on Siding
Spring Mountain near Coonabarabran and has facilities in Sydney where it
builds astronomical instrumentation for both its own telescopes and
others overseas.
The Observatory is currently building a robotic optical fibre positioner
as part of a large new instrument facility for the Subaru Telescope in
Hawaii. Part of this project is the production of software to process
the data produced by this instrument, to be based on a similar existing
software package. The observatory is seeking a software engineer or
Astronomical data analysis programmer who can take this complex existing
software and adapt it to the requirements of the new instrument facility.
The appointment is for a one-year term, in Sydney. Overseas travel will
be required during the commissioning phase of the project.
