PhD Scholarship in astronomy available.
Closing data for applications: 8 July 2005
This PhD project will investigate the radio properties of a catalogue of
1000 new planetary nebulae discovered from the AAO/UKST H-alpha survey:
The Macquarie/AAO/Strasbourg H-alpha Planetary Nebula project (MASH).
The research will involve multi-wavelength comparison studies including
optical, radio and infrared in order to better understand the
astrophysics of these fascinating objects and the clues they reveal about
the process of stellar death and ISM chemical enrichment.
The research is to be undertaken at Macquarie University which has close
ties to the Anglo-Australian Observatory and Australia-Telescope
National Facility which are located in close proximity. Use of national
and international observing facilities can be anticipated.
The scholarship has a 3 year tenure subject to satisfactory performance.
The current stipend is A$18,837 p.a.
Australian based students can apply under the RAACE scheme:

International awardees will have their tuition fees paid.
The project will be under the supervision of Dr Q.A. Parker and Dr A.E.
