Just a reminder that the BCS "Lite" accounts will be terminated as of
Tuesday 2 December 2004 - in line with the previous announcement and
emails sent to potentially affected BCS mail forwarding users.

This change affects only a few users of the BCS mail system. Account
holders that only use their BCS mail address for mail forwarding are NOT
affected. Likewise, all accounts created since August 1997 are NOT
affected.

BCSNet mail account holders are only affected if they access their BCS
mail by dialing (or telnetting) into a BCS mail server (known as
angel.cityscape.co.uk).

If affected, users should take steps before 2 December:

1 to have their account settings changed - this involves setting up mail
forwarding on the account, so that in future, any mail sent to
<na...@bcs.org.uk> will forward to the member's actual Internet account
(e.g., <na...@internetserviceprovider.co.uk>.

To make this change, members should mail <neta...@bcs.org.uk>
and include their account user id (of the form ab12), their "alias"
("name"@bcs.org.uk) and the Internet mail address to which they would
like email to be delivered. If affected users can not recall any of
this information, they should email <neta...@bcs.org.uk> with any
details that they do have.

2 to ensure that any important data that they may have stored on their
online mailbox is retrieved.

To re-iterate - the ONLY USERS AFFECTED are those that actively access
BCS email by dialing up to or telnetting in to the BCS
"angel.cityscape.co.uk" server and accessing a BCS mailbox online.

If your BCS mail account is just set to forward mail to your externally
provided mailbox (eg, an academic, business or personal email account)
then you are *NOT* affected. If you created your account after August
1997 you are *NOT* affected.

These changes are in advance of a change of service provider and some
changes to the service. Further details of the new service will be
provided in due course.

Note for all users of the Mail Forwarding service:
the "autoresponder" that users used to email in order to get their mail
forwarding settings changed is no longer working. Anyone that requires
a change to their mail forwarding should email the requested changes to
<neta...@bcs.org.uk> and the changes will be made centrally.

The new system will incorporate an improved mechanism for such changes -
details will be announced an emailed to users when the system becomes
available. The date of the new system is not yet confirmed - but is
likely to be in the New Year.

Any further questions, please contact
<neta...@bcs.org.uk>
