Demon's news server seems rather flakey at the moment (forcing me to change
clients apart from anything else), and in any case I was considering
stopping the 'Configuring your news reader to post to uk.*' posts (the
ukpost FAQ). This is for several reasons including (a) less time on my part
and (b) less need for the FAQ itself - there don't seem to be as many new
users on Usenet any more, and just about everyone knows how to configure
their client properly or doesn't care. New clients seem to come set up for
plain text posting by default.

If anyone thinks that the FAQ is still worth posting and wants to volunteer
to take over then I will send over source code, scripts etc. to someone who
seems reliable and capable.

Could a final copy be put on <http://www.usenet.org.uk/>, with a link
from the home page and permission to update?

There is (or should be) a current HTML version at
<http://www.usenet.org.uk/ukpost.html> - do you mean posting the text
version as well?

Demon's news server has been replaced by a new one. No conforming client
should have had problems with the change.

So you're saying very few clients will have coped with the change
without problems? :)

I can see no link to ukpost.html from that home page. The usefulness of
a document is considerably diminished if there is no obvious way of
finding it, without first knowing its URL, from the home page of its
site.

Perhaps the maintainers of the site should do a directory scan to see if
any more links are desirable.

Though didn't Demon always suggest using "newnews" which is not
supported by the new server, this might catch some poeple out?

I tried a few different config changes but Thunderbird (which I was using)
wouldn't work, it kept on asking for username and password and then saying
the command wasn't supported or some such. I thought I'd try another client
just to see and Entourage (not my personal favorite, but it's what I had)
works.
