Hi Thomas

Thanks for email and suggestions.

Already tried logging on and getting a fresh version. Still doesnt work.

I even made a page with Notepad and that didnt work either so I am beginning
to think that the problem is with the Counter code and not Dreamweaver
version 4.

If there is a Javascript guru out there please help !!!

Thanks

Colin

No problem. I was just in the process of replying to your first e-mail when
I got the second. ;-)

That's weird, since my counter 'hung' just like yours appears to be doing.
May be worth double checking?

So you've tried something along the lines of:

<HTML>
<BODY>
Counter.com code
</BODY>
</HTML> ?

If that doesn't load then you know it's a problem with their code...

Sorry I can't be of any further help.

Colin I am definately not a javascript guru.... but can you explain the
exact problem with the counter again.
I had a few problems with them but think I have ironed them all out now.
(with some help from another NG)

The problem should not be related to the program that you are using unless
it changes the code.

The counter hanging may be the same thing that caused me to remove all
counter.com counters from my pages and only now reinstate them when I have
what I think is a solution.

1. thecounter.com hosts many sites counters and
2. because it is coming from another server the page has to wait for the
image from thecounter.com however fast it is.

Netscape will not render the page properly unless it has height and width on
all images... counter code does not include that.... so it waits till it
gets the image... meanwhile the page in NN stalls..... hit stop and the
page can be used ... dont and you have to wait..

is this the same problem you have?

Hi Mark

the page in question is

www.panoramic-landscape-photography.co.uk

In both IE5.5 and Netscape 6.0 the page opens ok but the counter loading
doesnt complete.

Please take a look and let me know what you thinl.

Thanks

Colin

Colin in fact (hangs head in shame) I have to take back what I said.. I
thought I had a solution to exactly this but it turns out that my pages at
this moment 08.27am do exactly the same as yours despite the addition of
height and width to their code and in fact I am not sure that the blooming
thing is working anyhow. Sorry perhaps I cannot help with that after all!
:-(

As far as I can see the code on your counter looks right... I have had
problems with these things for ages..... and still no solution.... there is
a solution.... get proper hosting and get a raw visitor log file...

Hi Mark

I have over 30 counters from theCounter.com all working fine at present.

The 2 that I am having problems with are both new counters and I suspect
that the server they are on is groaning under the strain. I think the
Counter.com people have different servers for different batches of counter
numbers.

I have emailed the Counter.Com for advice and will post any reply I get to
this group.

Thanks for your help

Colin

P.s By the way I do have proper hosting with decent stats but like the
Counter as my clients can use it easily.

I think I will now try a counter by Extreme Digital.

Well I used to have about 12 on my fs website but I scrapped them all when I
noticed netscape hanging waiting for a response from thecounter
I have reinstated one at the moment but am not yet 100% happy.

No Joy yet?

We used to have a password log in graphics stats with one host I think it
was webaliser or that sort of thing, much more detail than the counter and
it was like a read only access.... might be good for your clients... it was
behind an admin password though.

Let me know what you think.
I am also having problems with the url forwarding on my economy site below
... busy times it takes ages or fails... will have to buy some decent
hosting soon or I am going to have problems...

Hi

No reply from Counter.com people so far ( 1 week later )

Have tried the extreme counter counter and it seems pretty good so far and
does most of the things the Counter.com counters do except taht there is no
visible count so I have coupled it with a standard web counter.

www.panoramic-landscape-photography.co.uk

Cheers

Colin

as far as reasonable priced hosting is concerned take a look at
www.cybes.co.uk.

Excellent service with excellent support

.

interesting Colin I am quite happy not to show any count on any of my sites,
for me a counter is for my benefit only and I think it sends quite the wrong
benefit if a total is visible on the page.

have taken a look.. am interested in new UK hosting at the moment but may
take a different solution.
