A couple of smaller outfits:

http://www.minotaur.it/hosting.html
http://www.herald.co.uk/info.html#domreg

slightly bigger

http://www.gradwell.com/email-web/domainhosting

If you can host your own DNS and just need a registrar then I use
http://www.totalregistrations.co.uk/

A bit more mainstream is http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ I have a couple of
clients who use them, but they seem to have good years and bad ones.

there are others - bigger, etc. Check the list on:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/governance/members/list/

if you want the lot :)

First time I've seen a posting in uk.net.providers for a long time too!

Personally, I use www.gandi.co.uk (they're French).

They also provide other stuff, but it's all optional. Their DNS has been
extremely reliable for me.

Not bad, considering that Nominet charge them £5+VAT for 2 years.

http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrars/fees/feeschedule/

I guess it's a case of bulk buy and hope they don't get any problems!

Yep. You can write you own zone files from scratch or use a medium or
simple 'wizard'. It also includes mail forwarding and a small number of
pop3 mail boxes.

Because they're based in France, you can also have private whois data for
.com domains for free (which was one of my requirements, thanks for postal
spam to previous registered addresses).
