Hi,
we are about to start testing a new web cluster and would like to offer
you the chance to put it through its paces.
This will not be by any means a stable production platform as we might
well take it down in the day to perform tweaks and changes, so please do
not use for any live sites.
We would suggest that you actually made a copy of the sites you wish to
use to test, create a sub-domain for these and leave the old ones as
they are.

You are free to stress test (but not DOS for long periods - few minutes
is fine), benchmark, and check for any missing packages/perl modules
etc, All we do ask is that if you do find anything wrong, or missing,
you let us know so we can fix and continue to evolve the platform.
As this is a work in progress, we can install modules etc and push the
changes across the cluster quite easily.

Our firstline support team will not be offering any support for this so
any support needed, or problems found, will need to be posted to our
mailing list and we (sysadmins) will support you directly.

If you would like instructions on how to set up a test site, please sign
up to the mail list at new-web...@list.gradwell.net and once we
have a few people ready, we will post out instructions to get you started.

Thank you

Can you tell us what the planned advantages of the new cluster will be?

Hi,
our new cluster handles load/concurrency a great deal more efficiently
and more consistently.
It has many small improvements that add up to a better system, ie we can
implement ways to stop users hammering the cluster and ruining the
shared environment for others.
It will also future proof us by using a more modular system so we can
easily adapt to new technologies and releases, like PHP6 when released
and stable

It will also provide a new, more reliable web logs system and also
provide near real-time virtual host updates so you have less time wasted
whilst building/testing sites
