I've had this since Gradwell migrated us all, but not consciously used
it.

Today I had such a need, but the server <myid>.securespamfilter.com is
unreachable and doesn't resolve in the DNS.

Any ideas?

Despite this they sent me a password reset today (I had misplaced the
original password).

(Tech support says call the sale team tomorrow, which is simply
bizarre).

I use Pickaweb for outgoing mail at the moment quite happily.

Have you a domain there (mydomain.tld), with a mailbox set up
(al...@mydomain.tld)? In which case you can use:

Pop3 Server: mail.mydomain.tld
and for both Pop3 and SMTP:

Mailbox: al...@mydomain.tld
Password: as set up.

You'll need to use stunnel for SMTP, with set-up including:
----------------------
client = yes
;Default is NO

; Service-level configuration

[ssmtp]
accept = 127.0.0.1:25
connect = mail.mydomain.tld:587
protocol = smtp
cert = stunnel.pem
;Collects from localhost:SMTP and delivers to port 587
---------------------

POP3 collection doesn't seem to need encryption, or a different port
from default.

I found the Pickaweb knowledgebase to be very UNhelpful for mail setup.

Like Jim, I'm happily using Pickaweb for both inward and outbound email,
using Turnpike with stunnel as an intermediary. For outbound, I use
mail.jhall.co.uk as the server address and port 465.

I can't say I've ever heard of securespamfilter.com. I don't remember
that address appearing in any of the help bumf from Pickaweb that I was
sent when I was migrated from Gradwell or that I looked at on their
website.

No, my domain is hosted elsewhere. What I'm looking for is an equivalent
of Gradwell's promiscuous SMTP outbound server for people who pay money,
have a username/password, and are happy to be rate-limited. (I think
with gradwell it was 100 emails a day).

The problem I have with Pickaweb is that hey are selling me such a
service, but the server they today auto-confirmed was the one to use, is
unreachable.

Worse, it's not even in the DNS.

Email today:

Dear Roland Perry,

You requested to reset the password for the service Outgoing SMTP relay

This is your new details:

Username: blahblah
Password: something

And if I access their portal it tells me to use the server url I gave
earlier. But UNhelpfully doesn't suggest port number.

But that's moot, because DNS searches reveal the server isn't listed.

Obviously Pickaweb should be providing what you pay them for, but as an
alternative provider for outbound email you might consider gmail. If you
set up an account with them, by choosing the right settings you can get
them to send email via them that has a From address that isn't your
gmail address. (Or at least you could a couple of years ago, which was
the last time that I made use of it.)

Have you read:
https://www.pickaweb.co.uk/kb/spam-experts-site-not-hosted-with-pickaweb/
?

securespamfilter.com by itself may not be in DNS, but many subdomains of
it certainly are!

No, but it doesn't help because I don't want all my domain's emails to
be sent that route, only a few when I'm "roaming".

>securespamfilter.com by itself may not be in DNS, but many subdomains

What I need is for <myid>.securespamfilter.com to be in the DNS.

FWIW, I don't think that the way DNS works can inherently have any
sub-domains "in it", if the second level name isn't.

They now want to see if my IP address is blocked by their server, but:

(a) The whole point of this service is for when I'm not on my normal
IP address.

(b) the server shows as unreachable on third party DNS/ping sites.

They've come back (with no apology for the erroneous documentation) that
the actual url is <miyid>.securesmtpfilter.com
****

I'll try it later.
