Novabbs is a web-based usenet interface which may be of interest to
anybody in the process of being abandoned by Google Groups.

You may have noticed that uk.legal.moderated has appeared at:

<https://www.novabbs.com/aus+uk/thread.php?group=uk.legal.moderated>

though at the time of writing it's only been populated with posts from
up to about six months ago. I don't understand these things but I
presume it will a)follow the moderation protocols and b)eventually
become up-to-date.

Sending posts originating on the site to the moderator is handled by
the upstream server
(news.i2pn2.org)

I'm flagging this in case you think the process may compromise the
moderation process or the potential liability of the moderators. I can
always ask the site to drop uk.legal.moderated again but, given that
novasbbs is a convenient and quite well publicised substitute for
Google Groups I see it as almost inevitable that ulm would soon pop up
there again.

Oh. That's not very good.

I don't see how it could. It may generate confusion amongst the users
of novabbs though, in that they won't know when/if their posts are
approved or why they're getting very few responses if their posts
are rejected.

If one wants a business model which is parasitic on Usenet one might at least

No, I don't think so. There was a thing about fifteen years ago called
"legalbanter" though, that was very similar and had exactly the same
problem.

(It also had an issue whereby it could sometimes create reference loops,
i.e. if you had articles A and B posted to the group via the website,
article A could claim it was a reply to article B while article B
claimed it was a reply to article A. Which is pretty clever because
usually you'd need a time machine to manage that.)

Does the site owner plan to change rslight to handle moderated groups
properly?
