FAST TRACK ANNOUNCEMENT REMOVE: uk.net.jips
=======================
In the procedures established for maintaining the uk.* hierarchy
<http://www.usenet.org.uk/guidelines.html> there are provisions, where
there is a consensus and the proposal is straightforward and
non-controversial, to proceed by the "fast-track" method, so as to
avoid the necessity for holding a full vote.
I have now received a request to fast-track the following proposal:
remove newsgroup uk.net.jips
This proposal will be activated no earlier than five days from the
posting of this notice (i.e. not before November 19th), unless there
are objections (of which six or more, or any one which seems to the
Committee to be well founded, shall suffice to halt the process).
Objections should be emailed directly to Control at <con...@usenet.org.uk>.
Objections will be resolved by the committee (comm...@usenet.org.uk)

Proponent's summary of discussion:
SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION
No-one responded at all to the RFD until I tried to stir up some
interest in it. After that I had one person say that they thought the
lack of discussion was a sign that the group could be removed.
In the face of underwhelming cries of anguish over the removal of the
group the time as come to speak of many things, but the JANET IP
service is obviously not one of them.
And so, almost a decade since the JANET IP service started I ask for
the removal of the group.
END SUMMARY
RATIONALE: remove uk.net.jips
uk.net.jips was originally setup as a mail<>news gateway from the
JANET-IP discussion list as the JANET IP service was developed almost
a decade ago. Since then various attempts have been made to use the
newsgroup to hold discusions about the JANET network, but nothing
substantial has been posted about the JANET IP service for many years.
For a couple of years host-counts were posted showing the number of IP
addresses registered to UK networks, but that stopped over 2 years
ago.
In the past 6 months someone suggested that it would be a good place
to discuss projects that involved the JANET network, but this was not
followed up.
Since then (at the time of writing this RFD) there has not been a
single posting on the group that was either on topic or even from an
ac.uk address
Hence, I think that it is time the group was removed.
END RATIONALE
PROPOSAL
The removal of uk.net.jips.
END PROPOSAL
