Great atmosphere, great crowd, great party. Thanks to everyone involved
in putting it on, and to everyone who was there. There were so many of
you that I'm not even going to attempt a list - I reckon even Bart might
have problems reciting the names of all the UMRers there. :)
Had a minor comedy moment when I got home, and couldn't get up the ramp
to my front door because it was iced over. Obviously I made it in okay,
and I guess that'll teach me to have bald tyres on the wheelchair. ;)
Now, can someone please explain to me why I'm going out again, instead of
crawling into bed to sleep for a week?

Well, there was Nick, Wendy, Angie, Phil, John (Juppy), Rupey baby ( as I've
started to call him in my head - sorry Rupes), Marcus, Dale, Elayne, Rodisi,
Katey Gilbert Grinny person (serves you right for having such a good night

could very well be wrong, Niall (of the orange variety), - in the spirit of
being mischievous, anyone care to take a stab at what variety of orange,
(sorry Niall) - Carole, Steve, oh another Phil, Bart, Ting, (suits her name -
Ting), Margaret (avin it, avin it, avin it - large). And then there was a
load of people from Inna?State and the people who go there. It was our didg
players birthday - some way to celebrate it - eh? He's Michael or Deviant
Didg, you know, the bloke with the amazing tattoos and red eyes.
How do you reckon I've done, 23 UMR folk including me. Apologies to those
I've left out.

Bart? You are a great, mad, upforit crew - serious party goers.

I agree! Far too many people to mention !
I had a great time, top respect to Niall and Nick for putting on such a

Great music too! Loved the venue though it could've done with a chillout,

Some of us might disgree on that point, Mike. :) It was an

RR Fierce who put on a wicked set.

The human brain is far too good at finding patterns; without

>I reckon even Bart might

I don't think he was even keeping a list. Shame on him. :)
Other than that, all I can say is ... mmmmmmmmmmm....
Mmmm, he was good, but for me the best set of what was in any case a
storming night just had to be Phil Reynolds' - so much energy, so many
tricks and lifts :) I remember becoming conscious of just what he was
doing to me and I looked at my watch to check the time and see who was
playing. Mmmmm, great!!
Time passes, another couple of hours of good music, choons, risks taken
and brought off, I think "surely his set must be nearly over" - but no,
in the real world only half an hour has passed. Again I lose myself in
it, this time I'm *convinced* I've missed a DJ change and it must be
nearly time to go, but no! once again only another half hour has gone.
Barclay - book this man, even if his first free date is 2nd Jan 2000AD.
And then that nice Mr. Peel, in an equally enjoyable manner, managed
somehow to achieve exactly the opposite effect ! Barely had he started
than it seemed as though he was wrapping it up - and yet I hadn't missed
a note nor felt in any way short changed.
Kudos too to Matt for a great selection of choons, and thank you to all
the team. I do have to say about the sound reverberating in that
enclosed archway ... there were at least two occasions when, in a run of
high frequency sound, it became *unbearably* loud, and I was forced to
choose between continuing to be cool and dance large, or jogging in a
somewhat more restrained manner with hands over ears for the sake of
what hearing remains to me. And I have to admit that my tympani won
the vote.
Still, yet another wonderful UMR based night out, lovely as always to
see people from so far afield, and interestingly some non-UMR
Reading/Slough people too ! I won't repeat the roll-call :) But I
strongly suspect that Orphan's Yard is not subject to the ordinary laws
of time passing ...

I really liked Phil Reynolds and loved RR Fierce and my favorite DJ is Peter

Musically speaking the high point of my night was Matt's set, which was
spot on the mark for me. With apologies to the other DJs, I thought the
music was a bit dull at other times, too flat and not uplifting or
melodic enough - but that's just down to differences in personal taste,
already well documented. Most other people seemed to be enjoying it. :)

Including the many people I'd never met before but had some great chats
with, since I was being a bit of a lightweight in true Juppy style. ;)

I never thought I'd ever say this, but I agree - once or twice it was so
loud it hurt. My ears are still ringing.

You can add Ruth, Felix, Mels, Eric, Ben, Jacky, James, Helen, Rob,
Andrew, Andy, Dave, Gary, Becks, Ross, Christen, t'other Matt, Michelle,
Duncan... just off the top of my head. Though some of those are possibly
honorary UMRers. :)

Ah! He was scary, in a friendly way - those eyes. :) I chatted to some
lovely people from Reading, which was odd since we were in Brixton. All
of them knew you, and now I understand why. :)

too true - was really lovely
An absolutely wicked night out indeed! The pub meetup before-hand was
great - a chance to actually talk to people :) The meal was fab too,
with excellent food (well, the veggie selection was excellent anyway)
and a brilliant atmosphere, seeing as we were allowed to blast our own
choice of CDs out at loud volumes!
And then on to the club, which started off exactly right, because even
though in our eagerness we arrived there before it opened, one of the
promoters stood outside to chat to us and keep us entertained before we
were allowed in.
The 'intimacy' of the club was suprising at first :) but I got used to
it, and it was actually great to never be able to lose people, as they
were always in sight! The music throughout was brilliant, a nice mix of
hard house and hoovery trance, although I wasn't mentally prepared for a
7am finish, and so was too tired to dance for the last hour.
What really made it was the crowd - an absolutely sorted bunch of people
having a wicked time. Everywhere you looked there were happy smiling
people - it would be hard to better the atmosphere

At, but Bart can fall back on his written list to get it exactly right!
:)
Many thanks to the organisers and the DJs for such a good night!

<snip comprehensive DJ breakdown>
I enjoyed the variety of the sets but leant, in my keyed-up state, towards
the fiercer stuff at the back end of the night; RR Fierce certainly lived up
to his name, again. That's not to say that I wasn't dancing for almost the
entire night...solid and lengthy sets by everyone.
In summary, good music, friendly, up-for-it crowd and an 'intimate' (thanks
Dave Brown for the use of positive terminology!) venue. My only regret was
that I wasn't able to talk very much so consequently didn't really sit down
and natter (though I did meet Rodisi). Then again, we weren't there to
chat!;o)
Thanks to everyone who worked (or played) to make it such a great night.

<AOL> Me neither ;o)
But I

Hehe. I have to agree with you there. Our early arrival and the 7 am finish
did mean we were blessed with lots of time in which to 'ave it and the heat
certainly zapped all human forms of life. The combination with the meal made
it the sort of munting marathon I'd be up for doing again sometime soon.
:O)

Hey, but think of the increased traction in the dry :)
Wicked night, Mr Fierce is a genius. I've only just got up and my ears are
still fucked...
Brilliant to meet everyone again, some of you I haven't met since 'BC', some
of you I hadn't met at all and a small number was a particularly pleasant
're-meet' in better days. Apologies for not saying my goodbyes to everyone,
but it was damned freezing outside and I had to go and watch some very
strange videos with Wilson.
Thanks to everyone who put on the night and special food-related thanks to
Phil and whomever arranged the lovely meal. The 'removing of shoes thing'
was a masterstroke and made the narrow, twisty, slippery, flyer covered
staircase a pleasantly dangerous prospect after a few beers.
Cheers :)

Mine too, though sitting in front of a drum kit - and next to a bass amp

It does explain where the red peril at Tyssen St came from - years of
application of that kind of floor paint, churned up by feet, mixed
with the flotsam and jetsam you find on the floor. End result - thick
sticky red gloop.
with that, all the follow-ups and my tardiness at checking umr has meant
all has been said really...but just to add my big big thanks to the
organisers, DJ's, and venue peeps for a brill night - I was pretty
shagged after a hectic week at work, so couldn't give it the all I'd've

Well, thanks John, that's very kind of you! :-)
Obviously I can't speak for myself, but I really enjoyed the music on
Saturday.
I like a progression through the night, and Phil played a wicked trancey
set, RR Fierce followed with brilliant hoover mayhem (I think he's got to be
a contender for future Acubanisms) and Niall finished off with a banging and
superbly skilled harder set which was just right for the end of the night.

Really the best way to start off the evening, hot Sake, Japanese food and a
warm bowl of soup (can't remember who said it ,but he was astonished when we
were expected to drink soup with chopsticks!!!DOH!!!) ...scary but true!!
Danced nearly all night - so didn't get to meet as many people as I wanted
:(
but, as everyone's already mentioned brill vibe and lots of friendly faces.
10 outta 10 to the security staff - good attitude towards the munters and
the music.
And finally, (really, my only complaint of the night) wee bit too hot in

directly into my eye!!! and spent the rest of the night thinking of what
collective deadly munting disease I might contract (OK so I'm a self

The music was superb. The best bits for me were Phil and RR Fierce's
sets but that's down to my preference for hard, fast n' funky tunes
over anything else. I don't care if it's techno, trance or house but
it's got to have a bit of a groove to catch my attention these days.
Both DJ's played these with abundance.

A bit too bijou (sp?) for my liking and far too hot but nothing that
spoiled my night. Could have done with more bottled water and the
cloakroom was overwealmed but I'm sure these are just teething

The friendly, smiley crowd were indeed that. Couldn't hope for a
better crowd. Good owners too. Had a bit of a chinwag with one of 'em

I give it 9.5/10 (lost just 1/2 a point for the 1,000,000 degree

Credit where it's due, mate. :)
I should add that I used the word "dull" above but *definitely* didn't
mean "boring"! I just was trying to make a musical comparison to the more
trancey stuff I usually listen to. I'm trying to educate myself to like
hard house, and finding I enjoy it more each time I go out.

LOL! [sorry]

I'm not quite such a fan of the hoover as some folks round here, I reckon
you can have too much of a good thing. :) But RR Fierce was, well,
satisfyingly fierce, and Niall had me yelling "choon!" several times
during his set. I just had no energy to dance - like many others, I'd
forgotten about the extra hour. :)

But clean toilets! With toilet paper and paper towels to dry your hands!
I could even get the chair in.
Oh sweet, sweet luxury.
NYE at Tyssen Street was the final straw for me, the loos were so bad. I
know there were cleaner ones upstairs, but that doesn't help me much. If
it's not bad enough that all the crap on the dancefloor gets onto the
wheels and therefore onto my hands, well, imagine what it's like wheeling
through piss in the toilets... Bleurgh.

It got a big fat smiley from me, too, all day Sunday... :)

I want I want!
To my taste it wasn't! It was very good but it was not a night I'll
remember for the music. (Unlike e.g. Fish@SS with Simon Eve doing the
last set, err, November?, last year) The point I was attempting to make
is that the crowd was so brilliant that even given not particularly
great music, excessive heat for most peeps (not me) it was a brilliant,
memorable night that I can't wait to do again.

I liked the small venue - made it seem more like a party than a club.

You have to be careful about forking too much, all sorts of nasty things

: Ah! He was scary, in a friendly way - those eyes. :) I chatted to some
: lovely people from Reading, which was odd since we were in Brixton. All
: of them knew you, and now I understand why. :)
I found it very unsettling they looked so unnatural. Real pink eyes just don't
look like that. Reminded me of a close munting friend whose currently in the
USA just heard she'll be back in six weeks. Her eyes are naturally pink.

: I never thought I'd ever say this, but I agree - once or twice it was so
: loud it hurt. My ears are still ringing.
You spent a lot of time over by the left speaker the sound was definitely
rather better over the other side. It sounded to me as if the whole system
was being driven just a bit hard. Distortion rather than pure volume being
the problem. Hard house/hoovers is hard on the ears though it's the nature
of the sound. At Exstatic I find it's really nice to go upstairs to chill
out for a bit. It's so much more enjoyable to go back to the hard sound
after a break.
Just a shame the doors didn't lock! Effectively this meant one girl holding
guard outside while another went inside.
This system seemed to work well... most of the time.
You men of course had no time for such a system. Still, I do pity the person
who was confronted by James on the bog shouting for loo roll!
Suzie :-)

But Barclay'd already mentioned the Mikes, I think.

The wheelchair stopped anyone barging in, luckily. :)

Not something I'd wish on my worst enemy. ;)
