No, but I'm afraid cross-posting is not going to earn you many admirers.

When you post to more than one newsgroup at a time.....The only reason I've
left your crosspost intact is because I don't know which group you're
reading the replies from.....

Something you should have been aware of before doing it.

If you're new to usenet, you should read those links. Also (and I'm
surprised that nobody mentioned this), you're top-posting - another no-no...
You should leave the original post intact and at the top - like I've done
with yours :-)

I'm also replying to all groups that you've cross-posted too because I don't
know which was the one you're actually reading...

Following on from the previous comments about how to post correctly, it all
seems a bit academic since flyingpig.co.uk doesn't appear to be an
operational website....
It might help if you provided a working url?

Cheers

There's a company which advertises in various UK guitar magazines called
something like "The Flying Pig Musical Instrument Company". I recall seeing
ads, probably a couple of years ago, probably in Guitar Techniques .... for
this company .... which seemed to sell guitar gear mail order (exclusively
mail order it seemed) at very competitive prices.

Cheers,

Flying Pig's website is at http://www.flyingpigmusic.co.uk. The prices are
quite high though, particularly in comparison with the likes of Coda so I'd
strongly recommend shopping around a bit before ordering anything from them.

standard box shifting outfit. Go to Peter Cooks around the corner
instead; no web but they do have e-mail. tel 020 8840 1244. I've bought
several guitars from them, excellent outfit (satisfied punter only, no
connections). I'm only posting this to uk.music.guitar.

couldn't agree more!

Peter Cook's is a superb little shop - with some top guys behine the counter
and good prices.
Flying Pig's (round the corner) is definitely a room filled with carboard
boxes. However, if you go in there in person they do give you good deals and
pull out the best of what you're looking for. The downside is (as with many
mail order companies) that if you order over the phone/web without checking
the equipment first-hand, you run the risk of getting the "old one with the
dent in from the back of the stockroom" ;-)

hope this helps.

Jordan.

Posting to several newsgroups with one post.

I looked up FlyingPig.co.uk but I get a temporary page saying the site's
still under construction, so it's really hard to know anything about it.

Not the website, but I bought a Trace Elliot amp from Flying Pig just
over a year ago. Very good price, not the fastest delivery I've
experienced on a mail order item, took about a week (which was fine by
me, I've used the amp once in the last year... clearly my need wasn't
urgent).

Yes, it's the old Marshall shop/factory! Was known as Tempo Music in
the 1970's. Run by Jeff Baker, who made his money by buying up a load
of Fender Strats when they were not fashionable in the mid sixties!
Yes, Strats were *very* undesirable during the 'merseybeat' period!

He stashed them away, and when their popularity returned, he had a shed
load of NOS Strats to sell at premium prices. Very clever and nerves of
steel!

Will I agree that cross posting is the NG equivalent of junk mail, however
some here have taken this is little too seriously in the past. I recently
posted a quivery to this NG and a similar (not the same) post to another non
UseNet NG, and was criticized for this. If this guy made a genuine mistake
then lets give him some leeway. Also there is a difference between asking
two friends the same question
and bombarding strangers with questions (or sales pitches etc).

Just a final note I was nearly caught out then I replied group and nearly
cross posted as my reply defaulted to the NGs that had previously been
posted.

Little off topic (Flying pig)

Serial posting is better than crossposting IMO, and any criticism
for it currently, is out of order! I've often serial posted in
different forums (fora?), and if some unique info has arisen in
any of the the forums, I've collated it and serial-reposted the
results. When all forums were 'civil', cross-posting was OK
(although could result in 'bandwidth bloat' for an individual
forum), but now, urgent announcement posts apart, it's not worth
the hassle. The only caveat is you occasionally find a related
forum via crossposting, which is how I found this NG, via a
crosspost to rmmgj and ukmg *only*, which is a 'fair-ish'
crosspost, as rmmgj is mostly 'civil'.
