Does anyone know anything about the Encore Rickenbacker copy of guitars

Apparantly they were marketed a while back as part of a Vintage range until
Rickenbacker threatened to sue Encore.

One is currently up for Auction on Ebay, so just wondering on what its
worth.

Cheers

Bernard

£120, no more........and that's only to someone who REALLY wants the rick
look on a budget.

IMO encore guitars are only average at best, so don't bid too high unless
you're really sure!

Cheers,
James

Pretty good chance any Rickenbacker copies on ebay won't make it to their
sell by date. Ricky has a quick working team of ebay pullers.

It'll probably disappear very quickly - Rickenbacker actively search
ebay for people selling the copies, because some of the copyists were
using it to try and sneak them out.

As for the quality : Poor. I'm not just saying that due to snobbery.
They have a number of differences - the headstock is angled back,
there is no neoprene pad under the pickups, the fifth mixer knob is
missing, the fingerboard is just wood, not lacquered, the machine
heads are of dubious quality, the tailpiece is a fairly common Korean
part, the bridge (I think) is screw-mounted to the body instead of
being floating but located by sitting in notches in a plate which is
attached to the body. The body is made of laminated plywood which has
been routed in a similar manner to the real thing, but the neck is
thicker, only has one truss rod, and finally, the pickups don't seem
to have any height adjustment like the originals and are mounted
considerably lower. As for the sound, certainly nothing special.
I've tried two in the past, both 330 copies and they were really
nothing special, being little more than a beginners guitar which was
an OK player.

The last one I saw was going for 550 marks - about 180 UKP. There are
better copies out there, like the old 60's Shaftesburys.

Just had a look at it. He's right about the "Jangling tone that no
copy can get" and this won't either. For one thing it's a bolt-in
neck, and the originals are glued. I've listed the other differences,
and he says it's a 330 copy - despite it being a 320 copy! Oh, and
the pickup switching is wrong as well - even for the original
non-fifth knob ones.

In fact, there's a Rickenbacker 320 going for $520 on there as well.
Fireglo, high-gain pickups. They say its a John Lennon but that's
rubbish because the John Lennon LE has a signature on the
scratchplate, either a bigsby trem or accent vibrato (not an R
tailpiece) 50's cookerknobs/60's black knobs and 60's toastertop
pickups.

Still nice - it's not up to 400 ukp yet, but the import duty has to be
taken into account.

Thanks for the info guys....

Might go for it if it doesnt go over £120. Dont think its worth more than
that, but would be useful as a backup guitar for gigs etc.

Cheers
