Hello,

I have a problem with an old wah pedal. The pedal is old (I have had
it 15 years and it was not new by any standard then) and was made in
Italy by JEN eletronica S.p.A, PO box 242, Pescara.

One transistor in this pedal has broken off its legs, and has no
identifying marks; can anybody point me to a potential replacement?

The component was situated on the corner of the circuit board
diagonally opposite the earth post and the wound component. It is
definitely not the same as the other one, which has written on it:

BC107
O718 (I think)

All other info has corroded away. The circuit board has the number
1275 on the copper side.

Can anyone please help?

PeteS just bought mine, so he may be able to tell you by inspection.
http://www.epanorama.net/cgi-bin/circuitsitesearch.cgi?keyword=crybaby should
have a few good links.

While it may not be the same case type and/or manufacturer, it may well be
the same type of transitor. Most schematics I've seen for the crybaby
circuit show the two transitors as being the same type, usually 2N3904.

> BC107

The BC107 is the Phillips part number for a general purpose NPN transistor,
which is the same as the 2N3904 or the EGC123A. Since both transitors
perform basically the sme function in the circuit, I would expect you could
replace the damaged one with another BC107. Any decent electronics shop can
fix you up. Just go easy on the soldering as you can fry these little
jewels with no effort at all.

A Google search for "crybaby schematics" will lead to more info than you
probably want to know.

coincidentaly, i have just found my exact same pedal.

mine still works, though, albeit the action is a little 'sticky'

Thanks for your help people, it looks like

http://www.geocities.com/j4_student/crybaby.gif

The last time I tried to find a schematic the net was much more
infantile and this time round I didn't even think to look before
posting. Duh...

Although my electronics comprehension is not there, I used to
construct unfeasibly accurate temperature sensors for the nukular
industry, so the soldering should be less of a problem than getting
the damn thing the right way round. Nows my chance to tear apart the
first old cassette player that I come across...

:)
