Hank Marvin was offered one but turned it down (probably because he's a
Jehovah's Witness?)

Not really related but still in a Shads vein. I heard The Shadows "Stingray"
on Pick of the Pops today. Is that the worst guitar tone on record? Unless
you know worse...?

Steve.

Arrrgh! I have to agree. Myself and my lovely wife agreed to turn off the
radio - a first! I couldn't believe how bad it was.

Cheers

I'm surprised to hear that but the band's ( and Cliff Richard's ) whole
history was over-shadowed ;-) by religion. There is probably not a more
clean cut band on the planet. I attended one of their recent final tour
concerts and they were as good as ever. They did something that will never
happen again - playing slow melodies on a guitar and getting hits.

Probably not their best, but many do like it. Subjective really. Every
band in existance has had variable performance or technical/tonal
limitations at times. Bands strive to 'stay up there' and face enormous
critique if they miss the mark. They did make a lot of people very happy...
and still do. Neil Young and Randy Bachman have flown in this weekend
specially to see the Shad's in London - now that's respect man! :-)

Hey Shad's.... I'm not your biggest fan, but, bloody good show chaps anyway!

You're spot-on there, what with Cliff Richard, Hank Marvin and Brian
"Licorice" Locking (their one-time bassist, who, I believe, was the one who
converted Hank Marvin to the Jehovah's Witnesses).
However, I don't think any of that rubbed off on Brucie-boy, who tends to be
very down-to-earth and calls a spade a bloody shovel when needs be!

May I hasten to add Norwegian black metal bands?
Non-smoking tea-drinkers the lot....

And I find them less scary than Hank B. Marvins choice of glasses....

Was Jet Harris playing it through his broken Dansette?

An interesting site. I know the lady who runs it (Julie Lambert) - a few
years ago, she advertised for a copy of a 1997 BBC radio documentary on the
history of the Dansette record player, and as luck would have it, I had a
copy on minidisc, which I dubbed to CDR and sent her a copy.
