Hi Folks

My son is learning 'Morning Town Ride' on the violin, and wants me to play
along on guitar.

Now, apart from the first line or so, I can remember very little apart from
Judith Durham's fabulous soaring vocal.

Can anyone point me to the lyrics and chords?

Ta

Julian

ps - yes I have tried Tabcrawler, olga, google searches etc - so it is bound
to be somewhere obvious!!

LP (it was my dad's - honest).

Why not try Napster and then you'll even have some backing track for him to
play along with ?

cheers

Ah - should have looked it up under the composer's name - Malvina
Reynolds.

The only version on the OLGA is one using the Nashville numbering
system, but it's pretty easy to figure out.

I don't know if it's right or not although the first line looks a
little iffy.......

It's amazing how much cred the Seekers have in the US. They were seen
very much as a part of the folk rock thing.

Personally I thought they sucked massively, but not as much as the New
Seekers....

Anyway - 'yer 'tis.......

I'd have said that the chords for this line should be

1, 1vii, 4, 1

from what I remember of it.

I'll see what I have in the books I used to use when I was a
schoolteacher, if I can find them.

Er... what's wrong with the *New* Seekers, anyway?

The guitar coda on "Never Ending Song Of Love" (played on a Gibson Les Paul
Custom, the Melody Maker reported at the time) was superb!

Next they'll be telling us that ABBA were crap.

So far as I'm aware, the main connection between the original and New
Seekers was Keith Potger. He played in the original Seekers and was manager
of the New Seekers. Other than warbling the odd number from the Seeker's
song book there was little connection between the two versions.

There was a reformed version of the original line-up of the Seekers that had
Julie Anthony on vocals because Judith Durham didn't want to know back then.
They occasionally tour in the original line-up.

Yes - that name rings a bell. AIRI, the original Seekers line-up (the 1965
London-based version) was:

Judith Durham
Bruce Woodley (gtr)
Keith Potger (12 str gtr)
Athol Guy (dbl bass)
(all on vocals as well, of course).

I heard that Athol Guy is an Australian MP (or something) now. Any
confirmation?

I think they came to the UK a few years ago (with Judith Durham).

BTW, the (original) Seekers were the first well-known users of Maton guitars
in the UK (well, Potger was, Woodley used a Guild).
