The seller wants me to see it asap, but I have to stay it because I am
waiting for a phone call.
Hi
I can only find references to the EF series acoustics being known as
"eterna". Yamaha also do the EG series electrics which could also be
"eterna" models but I would describe them as lower in the range than
pacifica's although they may have pre dated them. If it is an eg model then
unless the amp (model?) is decent then it isn't a particularly good deal
(imho).
Can you get any more info - model numbers of guitar and amp?
John P.
The seller couldn't tell me what model it is. He said the guitar is 10 years
old. He is a classical guitar player and knows about as much about
electrics as I do! I have done a quick web search but not much has come up.
Google in "Images" for "yamaha eterna" (include quotes).
There are a couple of pictures of the guitar which looks like a
Pacifica indeed.
Why not ring the good people at Yamaha Kemble in Milton Keynes for
more info?
You might even be able to talk to the marvellous Mr. Viccars.

Hi,
Sorry without model numbers I can't really say much more, part of me
thinks - if I'm not sure what I'm getting leave it alone but hopefully
someone else will come along and offer more info for you.... without model
numbers or a picture it's a bit tricky.
One thing you could try is to have a look at the eg series online or in a
magazine - soho soundhouse usually advertise them in guitarist for about £80
or thereabouts, then if you go and have a look you'll ether recognise it or
not.
Sorry I can't be more help...

This is quite freaky. I was discussing selling some guitars today, and two
of mine have been mentioned in the same day.
Ok, the Eterna is the strat-a-like on the left of this picture.

The *real* name is the EGK300, Eterna by Yamaha. EGK stands for Electric
Guitar Kit, which indicates this instrument's position as a starter
instrument typically sold with a 10W practice amp in local music stores
and catalogues.
As I understand it they were produced for sale outside the UK, but Soho
Soundhouse sold a huge consignment of them a few years back which I
suppose must've been somebody's stock clearance. Mine is from 1996/7,
bought from Hands Music in Kingston.
Now for the bad news:-
The trem bridge is a real liability. Waggle the arm, and you will be
retuning your guitar.
The pickups are pretty uninspiring. At one point the magnets fell off the
back of mine, under the scratchplate and stuck to the bridge. This is not
a good thing.
The knobs were very prone to collecting dirt and gunk, and have needed
to be squirted with switch cleaner throughout it's life.
I have been advised that the neck needs shimming because the angle is
wrong, and lacks the correct relief.
At time of original purchase it was 129 pounds including an amp, strap,
lead and gig bag. So your friends price seems quite high.
At the time of purchase it was much better than the Squier strats, but
that may well have changed. Go try some beginner's guitars in a few stores
and compare.
Now the good news:-
I actually love mine, and it is certainly not one of those I'd ever
consider selling.
Hope that helps,
J.
I did not get around to seeing the guitar, I think I will get a Pacifica
instead.

The Yamaha-designed Eterna electric solid is very similar to a Pacifica, but
probably made under licence rather then by a Yamaha factory.
It seems OK.
I know someone who has one. He gets a great Strat-like tone from it, but
then, he'd get a good sound out of anything.
