Hi,

In association with Paul Creedy of Arrowhead guitars, I am pleased to
announce the launch of my new amplifier business, Tipton Amplification.

I shall be producing a range of hand built all valve amplifiers, the first
of which is The 'Tipton Slasher'.

This is a true Class A 6W amplifier, with a high gain preamp, the power
stage switchable into 'triode mode' dropping the output to a still loud 2.5
Watts.

My design brief, put simply, is bulletproof reliability and a good signal to
noise ratio with a tone I would want out of an amp.

In triode mode, this amp can be put on '11' in the living room without
annoying the neighbours. In pentode mode, this amp can be used at a modest
gig, delivering a thick distortion that cleans up by turning down the
guitar, combined with a footswitchable gain boost.

Alongside the amplifiers, there will be a modest range of effects pedals,
starting with the excellent 'Cobra' booster, designed and built by our very
own James Screaton, all round good egg and tone hound.

The link below is to a recording of yours truly battering one of my
Stratocasters to death via a Cobra pedal into the prototype Slasher, via a
Celestion Vintage 30 speaker housed in a closed back cabinet, mic'ed with an
old Shure SM57. The recording is not doctored in any way.

No prizes for guessing what tone I was aiming for ;)

Paul and I shall be demonstrating the Slasher and its larger Siblings
alongside Paul's excellent guitars at this year's 'Music Live' in Birmingham
in November. You are cordially invited to come along and say hello.

regards,

Trev Ridney

Where does the name Tipton come from?

You might run into a small problem with the Cobra name, as Carlsbro have
used it on one of their amps. They may object.

Good luck Trev! :-)

Hi William,

Thanks for your comment. As to the price, not announced yet, still doing the
costings but it's likely to be pitched at Cornford prices.

Trev

Woo and indeed hoo! Will you be offering custom mods to existing amplifiers?
Can James be bribed to do more electronic wizardry? Do you need a webmaster?

Answers on a postcard to the usual address please :o)

He's got one :)

Can I just say - being one of the privileged few who's had a crack
through a Slasher - this beast is VERSATILE. It'll do my preferred sound
(power stage crunch) better than my current amp, and front-ended by a
Boss SD-1 it just SINGS.

Yes.

You'll have to ask him that yourself :)

Do you need a webmaster?

Already got that covered Andy, but thanks for the offer.

I may have a customer for you - at least, he's interested in you (via a
verbal description on the phone). However he's London-based and not on the
Internet.... any ideas?
