You know, the guy with the SG custom, always in the back of Total Guitar and
others. Looks like Bob Carolgees ;-) Does anyone own any of the videos or
individual lessons. What do you think?

I've used his fast fingers tapes for some time now and have his blues video.
They cover some very useful ground - but like everything you have to work at
it to really benefit. The only critisism I've got is that the paractice
backing trackes aren't long enough.

I bought the complete guitar course. The lessons are very brief (small
photocopied pamphlets) and don't really include anything you can't get for
free on the net. Too much of the "here's a picture of the fretboard and a
single sentence telling you to go away and learn all the notes up and down
the fretboard until you can name them all quickly". I'd hoped for something
more exciting to be honest! I know you have to learn the basics but I'd
expected more than the dull approach adopted here.

Haven't seen the videos.

I'm sure Steve'll love that Bob Carolgees comment, heh.

I've bought the Complete Bluesman videotape. I think Argent's in
Denmark St, London were selling it slightly cheaper than advertised and
it had a funny cover and he's ALWAYS in those mags, so I thought "why
not?"

It's very informal and Steve is possibly the nicest guy ever to lay
down a videotape course. He constantly makes reassuring comments and
comes across as a knowledgable chap without being big-headed in the
slightest. It's a beginner's level tape and I found it very good,
having just come back to the axe after way too much time off. I
especially appreciated Steve's small tips and shortcuts, which SO many
guitarists fail to mention...I have a lot of videos and some say "here
play this" followed by an insane Yngwiephonic line.

Tab is on screen which is to be expected and camera work is
consistently solid. It also has that stuff that makes the world go
round: humour!! Steve never takes it too seriously, but relies upon his
genuineness and confidence to make it all work. He's no stern
taskmaster, and this has the effect of making one *want* to play,
rather than being forced to play. I believe that if one feels
comfortable with the teacher (whatever the subject), then anything is
possible.
I would have liked to have seen him really let rip, but I suppose he
may not want to daunt his audience, so he only plays what he's taught
in the lessons.
On the basis of this tape I may buy others, but the lack of him playing
(and thus inspiring me to practice) is a bit of a shame. I have the
first Eric Johnson video and that inspires me to heaven and back but I
can't play any of the stuff! Somebody needs to address this issue, i.e.
inspiring without being ridiculously hard.

Again, in agreement with that other post, Steve expects a lot from
students, but provides you with the tools to get there on your own. The
last thing anyone should look for is a magic pill; the video isn't that
(thankfully) but it is a comprehensive introduction to the blues,
presented in a refreshingly laid-back style.

Ham.

I also have the Fastfingers comprehensive guitar course by Steve Bray. Have actually come back to learning the guitar after 12 years off and Steve seems to have moved and website stopped, so no longer available to help with doubts. Does anyonw know if he is still around/has a contact number?
I am struggling with Task 3, Lesson 4 (kit 44); "moving all your riffs, ideas and 5 scale patterns to C". If not, I'd really appreciate it if this could be paraphrased by anyone who has done the course/an accomplished guitarist.
Cheers and all the best,
Tom

Hi both, bit of an old thread now but I have a bunch of Steve Bray tapes and booklets, I can copy for you or, hopefully help with any course material. Including video's (now copied onto DVD's) and cassettes and booklets. think I have a 10 part lead guitar course but will have to dig it all out.
