hooray for yasumas! - i've got a real soft spot for 'em and have owned
quite a few in my time.
they came out in the late 70's as a budget-priced solid-top guitar.
They were a superb instrument for the money (a new "newance" model
cost @AUS$170 (@UK£bugger all).
I no longer have any as they've all found their way into trade-ups. I
gave one of my older brothers one for a wedding present about 15 years
ago and he's still got it - it sounds great too (when he's allowed to
play it...:-( )
Yasuma had a similar experience to Daion - only worse: They were too
good and they were bought out by their competition in the early 80's
and closed down. Daion, a much larger company suffered a similar fate
but they were too big to close down - instead the new parent company
(yari - i THINK) just released really REALLY bad guitars with the name
Daion on them (they weren't much better to "kapok's")
I'm unfamilliar with the model you mentioned - but it's solid top, i
can guarantee that - they all were and the world is sadder for not
having more of them. One of the few decent japanese guitars.
hang on to it - i dunno whether it'll be worth much in the future
(although you never know) but you'd be hard pressed to find a better
(for the price) sounding instrument.
as a side note, and it's odd, but i found the more ornate models (and
some of them were STUPIDLY ornate - like a D45) weren't nearly as nice
as the plainer ones (like the "newance")..the materials used
(apparently) were better (AAA grade sitka spruce and the like) but
they just didn't sound as good as the plainer ones...god i'll shut up
now - i'm just excited that someone else out there is aware of them.
if ya wanna sell it sometime - let me know - my lady needs a decent
instrument!
