aaargh!
thanks dave and mike, now my recording PC is once again in danger!
heh... actually, no it's not. while I'm a bit tempted, I can control it.
dave you go ahead and bid on it mate! come join the JEM owners club! ;-)
the JEM777VDY is a gorgeous looking beast, even though that guy has no pics.
check:
http://www.jemsite.com/axes/model/jem777vdy.htm
for details.
interestingly, out of the original lineup of JEMs, most had the JEM profile
neck - slightly stratty feel, 19mm thick at the nut, 22mm think at the 12th
fret - while two models out of the entire range had the ultra-slim wizard
neck - 17mm at the nut and 21 at the 12th fret. they were the JEM7PBK (black
with white pyramid markers on a rosewood board, straight handle) and, you
guessed it, the JEM777VDY.
I had the good fortune to locate one of the necks a few years ago, and
started building a VDY from spares. the neck is the thinnest shreddiest neck
I've ever seen, it feels thinner even than a wizard. anyway, I got the neck,
the body, the scratchplate, the machineheads, one pickup and the knobs,
before my money and job ran out and I had to sell the incomplete article on.
:-(
AFAIK, some guy bought it, finished it and made a wonderful job of it, so
someone somewhere is playing one of these unaware that it lay under my bed
ina half-built state for a year or so.
it's a great guitar. (buy it dave! buy it!)
oh and mike, yes I knew it was there - I sweep ebay for JEMs at least once a
week... ;-)
cheers,

Did you know about this one?
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1424148520
ah yes, the Neville custom. lovely lovely beast.
read about it on Jemsite.com originally. never bothered checking the auction
though as it was bound to be sky-high, and it ended up going for $5488.
sure is nice though... ;-)
Yeah, I'm not that much of a fan of Jems in all their fluorescent and
flowery glory, but that one is gorgeous. I quite like that new one with the
bumpy black finish as well.
hmm - it was a lot less than that this morning :))
oops - sorry (to Clives Credit card)
Cheers

nono the VDY is still at £425. the Neville custom was a one-of-a-kind JEM
type guitar made in natural wood finish with white pickups, that was used on
the Ultra Zone tour and was played by Vai and Keneally. steve auctioned it
off for charity, and it fetched over $5000.
and I don't have a credit card, for exactly this reason. :-)
Cheers
James
close... ;-)
actually, I just hit ebay.co.uk, select "items available to the UK", and
enter "ibanez jem" in the search box.
there's usually 2 or 3 and every now and then a green one pops up.
<homer>
mmm... JEM777LNG... [drool...]
</homer>
eBay saved searches are cool: you can set up a search for "Ibanez JEM" and
have it email you any time any new matches come up.
