Being new to the iPhone I've been exploring some guitar based apps.
Found a couple of good ones and a great many shit ones.

Quite impressed with this so don't mind paying.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

TIA

I blogged a few apps I like to use a wee while back:

http://www.markmcguigan.com/2009/10/10/handy-guitar-related-iphone-apps/

Since then been quite a few more apps added, such at the PRS Jam Amp
App

http://goo.gl/NQxy

and Premier Guitar Magazine's app:

http://goo.gl/kLhd

as well as many others :)

Looking forward to TAB apps and more guitar apps on the iPad!

I quite fancy this one although it's £5.99 which seems plenty for an
app. Having said that it seems to be highly rated.

I think the iPad will be great for a lot of music apps. Would certainly
like something like guitar pro but not so flakey.

OTOH, maybe I should just write it, I am in the iPad developer group!

Funny thing you see about the iTunes application store. Back in the old
days applications cost sort of 30 to 300. Applications on the iTunes
store generally cost 59p to 5 (although I did get a GPS one for a lot
more), and you end up thinking 'Ooh, 1.59, hmmm.. it is a bit of an
expensive one, should I get it?' and then wander off and buy a sandwich
for 2.

You mean the guitar tab toolkit then? Would be great on the iPad's
bigger screen:

My favourite, though not strictly just guitar is called Thumb Jam:
Does for cracking lead guitar performances, complete with vibrator and
bends, but also keys, drums, bass, strings, trumpet. You name it, it
does it.

Check out some of the vids on their website:

It's not strictly a guitar app but I've found this one, Karajan, quite
good for ear training, albeit a bit pricey for an iPhone app:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id284444548?mt=8

There's a free version too but I upgraded to the paid version ages ago
so, sorry, can't remember what the limitations were with the free
version.

This is the free version:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id284445260?mt=8

I can also vouch for ThumbPad - a superb piece of software, i've
already used it on recordings. Didn't know about the vibrator option
though....

Currently on my "music" page on my iphone are:

Wickifon
Melody
iReal Book
FourTrack
iStroboSoft tuner
TabToolkit
JR Hexatone
Wivi Band
Ocarina
ProChords
GuitarToolkit
NLogSynth
ThumbJam
TonePad
MusicStudio
Steel Guitar
Noise.io Pro

ALL of them are recommended, but from a guitar point of view, i'd say
GuitarToolkit and TabToolkit, and also ProChords is very useful for
song-writing.
