Having just found a tape of these three (and having searched
high and low for the vinyl from which it was taken) does
anyone have any information about them and whether they're
gigging still?

Saw them just the once, at Luton back in.....ummmmm
'86???....and they were great. The tape has some really good
songs on it, and apart from titles I now have no other info.

Hi Martin,
I have no idea what became of them. I only saw them once but I do have
the LP. They were/are Sue Smythe, Cathy Evans and Kim Pickett. The LP is
called Proper Little Madams and it was recorded in 1982 and produced by
someone called Mark Tibenham. It was recorded on Starward Records at
Zella Studios in Birmingham (never heard of them).
My memory is that I thought they were the bees knees when I saw them...I
think it was Sidmouth. The last time I played the vinyl (don't have the
means now) I thought it had all dated a bit.
Still I wonder where they are now......
Best Wishes

There are only sparse references on the Web that I have

Kay Ishikawa (Ray-K-Ray, some hardcore band)
Rachel Evans (Ray-K-Ray, Proper Little Madams)
Jon Slade (I'm Being Good, Huggy Bear, Mast, Almost Ringo)
M.J. Taylor (Phantom, the Broke Revue, Holly GoLightly,
Meteors)

They did seem to make a second album....dammit, I forget the
name now

In 1984 I recorded a bbc radio live sesion they did just before breaking up.The numbers included "Changer her" and one about the evils of smoking. The programme was probably "Folk on Two" possibly with Jim Lloyd. The star turn, possibly Tom Paxton, liked them and said they should be persuaded to stay together.

They were brilliant. They played my club in Altrincham in Cheshire - and then ONE of them retired [got wed or a new job/ wanted a social life] and that was that. I'd LOVE to get hold of a copy - I thought I had their cassette, but can't find it. Can anyone put "Boys Will Be Boys" on YouTube?

I am an ex member of PLM,s my name was Kim pickett. we split up and never got back together, lets just say that we got together to form the band, and in normal circumstances we would probably not have socialised. We made great music but that seems like another life away now!

How marvellous to hear from one of the original members!

As a member, you must have the records: assuming they're out of print
(Is that the right expression for records?) so doing so would not
deprive anyone of copyright income, could you put something on YouTube,
or perhaps email it to Susie above?

What sort of material _were_ they - something like Fascinating Aida?

I always said I'd leave the premiership at 60, and I did - you should always
be prepared to step down for an older man. - Harold Wilson 1983-June

There are several copies of one of their LPs on ebay for less than a
tenner. Tempting.

One track is a Rosselsong. I don't recognise the others, though Love at
Sainsbury's sounds like something Robb Johnson might have written.

Rather belatedly, I am the final member of Proper Little Madams to find this page. I haven't seen Kim since the 80s and haven't seen Cathy since around 2000, but good to know they are both thriving. Perhaps we should plan a revival and rename ourselves The Old Bags.
