This week : 18 New entries, 1 non-mover, 1 climber and 20 going down.
CHART TIME! :
-------------
(* - my current favourites)
(!!! - Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) - Repeat., ie. a re-release)
40 NEW ENTRY : Gemini - Even Though You Break My Heart
The latest teen-type band, and presumably they're twins. Haven't heard the
record. Don't want to either.
39 (24) FALLER : The Original - I Luv U Baby (Remix) (R)
38 (25) FALLER : D:Ream - Party Up The World :O ===
37 NEW ENTRY : Dubstar - Anywhere
36 (21) FALLER : Oasis - Roll With It :O ===
35 NEW ENTRY : Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine - Born on the 5th of November
34 NEW ENTRY : The Cardigans - Sick and Tired
33 NEW ENTRY : AC/DC - Hard as a Rock
32 (18) FALLER : Whigfield - Close To You
31 NEW ENTRY : Annie Lennox - Waiting In Vain
Annie goes reggae...sort of. I'll pass on this one. It's even worse than the
last two covers.
30 (16) FALLER : Scatman John - Scatman's World
29 NEW ENTRY : Garbage - Only Happy When it Rains
28 (19) FALLER : Umboza - Cry India
27 (17) FALLER : Gompie - Alice (Who The X is Alice?) (R)
26 NEW ENTRY : The O.T. Quartet - Hold That Sucker Down
25 (14) FALLER : De'Lacy - Hideaway
24 NEW ENTRY : The Verve - History
23 NEW ENTRY : Candy Girls - Fee Fi Fo Fum
22 (13) FALLER : Celine Dion - Tu M'aimes Encore (To Love Me Again)
21 (15) FALLER : Erasure - Stay With Me
20 NEW ENTRY : Paul Weller - Broken Stones *
19 (11) FALLER : Blur - Country House *
18 (12) FALLER : TLC - Waterfalls
17 NEW ENTRY : Mary J Blige - Mary Jane (All Night Long)
16 NEW ENTRY : Menswear - Stardust
15 (9) FALLER : Berri - Sunshine After The Rain :O === (R)
Previously released under "New Atlantic featuring Berri", and sounding NO
different, can anyone please explain to me why re-releasing a song makes it
go immeasurably higher than the last time it was in the charts?
I have a bit of a nightmare about this song. I was in a fast-food restaurant
in St.Helens a few months ago (I won't say which one, but let's just say they
don't have a Burger King there so it's the other one), and it was full, but
we found a seat upstairs, where loads of seating had been roped off for a kids
party. They were playing a tape endlessly - a sort of 'musical chairs' game,
and the music started, then stopped, then started, etc. etc. but it was
SO LOUD I COULDN'T HEAR MYSELF FART, and as a consequence was completely
disssttoorrrttedd that it couldn't be heard properly. One of the songs playing
was this one, and I've hated it even more since then.
14 (10) FALLER : Michael Bolton - Can I Touch You...There?
13 NEW ENTRY : Cast - Alright *
I like this one but at the moment I can't remember how it goes. However, I'm
wondering when they're going to come up with a song title that hasn't been
used before... Fine Time? Alright? :)
12 NEW ENTRY : Bon Jovi - Something For The Pain :O ===
I don't think even Paracetamol could get rid of the pain after hearing this :)
11 NEW ENTRY : 20 Fingers featuring Gilette - Short Short Man (R)
Why is this out now as "Short Short Man" when last year it was released as
"Short Dick Man" ?
10 NEW ENTRY : Wet Wet Wet - Somewhere Somehow
9 (7) FALLER : Outhere Brothers - La La La Hey Hey
8 (6) FALLER : Janet Jackson - Runaway
7 (5) FALLER : The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You
A few years ago the Rembrandts had a radio hit (but alas not a chart one)
with the excellent "That's Just The Way It Is Baby". This song is just standard
American MOR AOR and a song apparently taken from the TV programme "Friends"
(which explains why the cast of the show are in the video too), but it's not
a patch on the song that should've got as high as this one did.
6 (3) FALLER : N-Trance featuring Ricardo Da Force - Stayin' Alive
5 (8) *HIGHEST CLIMBER* : Smokie featuring Roy Chubby Brown -
Living Next Door To Alice(Who the F**k is Alice?)(R)
This one has to be the highest climber as it's the *only* climber....
....unfortunately.
4 (4) NON-MOVER : Mariah Carey - Fantasy :O ===
3 (2) FALLER : Michael Jackson - You Are Not Alone
2 (1) FALLER : Shaggy - Boombastic
For those who don't know, this single is the latest in a long line up to be
used in a Levi's 501 jeans advert. This one features animated clay figures of
a girl in a blazing tower-block who is rescued by some muscle-bound guy on a
motorbike. I won't give away more of the advert as it's quite a laugh to watch
first time round.
Last week in The Sun there was an article "Guess why they call me 'Shaggy' ?"
with him giving a wry smile. Of course the answer is that he resembles the
character from Scooby Doo :)
1 *HIGHEST NEW ENTRY* : Simply Red - Fairground
When I first heard this a few weeks ago I didn't know it was Simply Red,
and thought it was some dance band, or The Beloved, or somesuch as it doesn't
sound like their usual output. Because of this I grew to like it, which is
strange, as Simply Red's music, and me, rarely mix. However, this soon died
off as the song was played to death on the radio, and now it's No.1 - their
first ever in fact - and I have to endure it all over again :(
The one that got away :
-----------------------
47 Nick Heyward - The World
The Haircut 100 frontman is back, and this time his solo career sounds rather
different than when he was with that band, but it's still just as good. Shame
the record-buying public don't agree in such strong numbers. Still, there's
hope for next week...
