Hello - I am somewhat concerned by the absence of English Premiership
commentator Marcus Buckland, the ex-Radio Five commentator, on Sky or
anywhere. Where has he gone?
I will always remember him quoting the lyrics of West End Girls by the
Pet Shop Boys when he was reporting on a football game on the radio.
He did not divulge whether he preferred a "hard or soft option", to
quote a different part of the song, which is about homosexual
prostitution.
I know that in 1993 he was hosting a show on Capital Gold Sports,
which is best known for shouty commentary, which was never Marcus's
style. I have since spent a year in Australia so I may well have
missed something.

This is where it all gets a bit flaky. Yes, there is an article on
that website mentioning the show but if you look at the schedule in
another part of the website, the show's not listed!
Furthermore, there is a page set up for him in the Sky Sports Centre
but under each section you see the words "Coming Soon..."
What on earth has happened to him?
Another golden Buckland moment: he was presenting a phone-in on Radio
Five about the football coverage and someone called in to complain
that they have two commentators for each game unlike one which you get
on commercial networks. Marcus simply asked the caller "Have you ever
commentated on a live football match for 90 minutes?". The caller said
"No" and Marcus simply said magisterially "It's quite tiring."
Has Marcus gone to prison or something? He certainly seems to have
fallen a long way compared to the days when he was the top new
commentator on Radio Five.
