Greetings,

I have a tape with the first 4 of the final 5, and I will be getting a
copy of SiL around 48hrs after it's shown in the USA. In view of the
'interesting' choice of timeslot for showing by C4, I have decided to
open my door to anyone who wants to see the final 5 next Sat., here in
Cambridge. Precise time TBA. I will also have RoS for any who want it.
If a lot of folks say 'yes please, but can't make Sat.', I'll consider
changing the date.

I have surround sound, a front projector, and six foot screen, enough
space for around a dozen to get a reasonable view. Already having half
a dozen friends round, so still space for more if anyone is
interested. Floorspace potentially available to those who need it.

Don't bother asking for a loan of the tapes - sorry, they're fully
booked!!!! They're NTSC of course, and my gear won't let me make
copies.

Be interested to hear what folks think - is this a dumb idea, would
most of you prefer to hold out for C4, or are quite a few keen to see
them ASAP?

Anytime, anywhere, anyplace.

Mmmmmm. If you need another venue, there's New Hall college. I _know_
there's a 6foot screen, stereo and NTSC video. We can also make copies
too.

Hi Mike.

Great move - well done.

One aside, though - PLEASE be careful about the "public showing" rules. I'm
not sure what they are, to be honest, but from the sounds of it (dozen
people, none paying, private house) you're fine. Just please be careful!!

Oh - and Have Fun :-)

Thanks, Paul - but IIRC JMS has advocated the 'get together' approach
for SiL, including pubs and clubs - its not likes it's a PPV special.
Very much doubt if anything short of hiring a cinema and charging 20
quid a head would cause a problem... but then we've been down that
road already this year!

BTW, it looks as though Thanksgiving may cause a problem with SiL
delivery, the day may change from Sat. to Sun - watch this space!

True. Very true. Unfortunately, JMS isn't Warner Home Video, or the
international distribution arm of Warners. Thay have been known to be a bit
on the iffy side in the past!!

BTW, Hope this doesn't sound like I'm causing trouble here - I'm not

What about setting up a mailing list for dicussing the final five for
those of us lucky enough to see them within a week or so from now? Or
should we be able to wait until January 1st?

If anybody's interested, I can set up a list.

So come on then Paul. When's the London Final-Five-in-a-Snug-Bar
going to be??? Just the good ol' days of the Great Empire... When
_hundreds_ of Babblers crammed into Pav's snug bar to watch _thousands_
of videos...

Announced as soon as the last tape arrives in my hot sweaty hands.

... or you could come and watch it on my nice shiney new 36" panasonic
widescreen (yes, Ali, with a multi-region DVD - got a 2nd video while
I was at it too!! Saving for a DD amp and decent sub now).

More news at an appropriate time...

Erm, we don't _have_ any magic roundabouts in Cambridge, do we?

I book center, center in front of the screen (-:

I've always called the Newmarket Rd./East Rd./Elizabeth Way circular car
park the Magic Roundabout. Um, with a healthy dollop of irony.

Dunno if anyone else does, though.

Living right next to it tends to make me thing more of distinctly unmagical
things. Although cycling round its spiraling lanes on a Monday morning does
tend to believe that only a miracle will save me from getting squished.

You coming to the showing, Jon?

The Sony something-or-other-715M.

Multi-regioning is neat too - it's not a "zero" region, it explicitly
allows which region (1-6) you want befor eyou power on the deck.

Sorry, couldn't make it. I sent my homunculus along with Chris, though.
I hope he behaved himself. Last time I let him out, he ate all the
munchies, drank all the Diet Coke, bit straight through the cable TV
box, and gave the cat a surprise that wouldn't let her sit down for a
week.

I did ask Chris, but she was a bit reticent about his behaviour, and
dammit he _still_ won't tell me what happened in the last eight minutes.
Next time I'll remember to use a free range basilisk's egg for the
summoning, not a cheap battery-farmed one. *sigh*
