Wouldn't it be cool if the weight limit for the robots was increased to say
something like 200-300kg. They could have divisions like super heavyweights
or what ever. It would give the designers a lot more scope to construct more
powerful and ingenious weaponary and tougher armour. It would be funny
seeing them take on the house robots too!

There was once a proposal for super-heavyweights in an outdoor
environment (an arena to take them would likely be expensive, as would
the safety precautions). I'd like to see that, /real/ robot wars (and
much more opportunity to make them autonomous as well). I don't think
it would be a 'kiddie' show, though, more aimed at the "Scrapheap
Challenge" type of market (i.e. adults who like seeing inventive
designs), which may mean that it would need someone else (not Mentorn)
to produce it -- this would be a Good Thing(tm) anyway, in my view.

Safety regulations may be a problem...

--In my (admittedly limited) experience as the size of the bot
goes up so too does the cost of making it. Eventually you'd get to a point
where only sponsored bots, or those built by those with deep pockets could
compete. I've got a middleweight (Battlebots; 120 lb limit) that's set me
back something like $4k; our team's first bot, a heavyweight (220 lb
limit), that set us back maybe $8k. To build something truely massive and
competitive you're talking maybe the price of a new car, just to cover
motors, batteries, weapons and armor...
