"Singer Will Young has beaten a host of British acts to be voted the
most popular UK artist of all time in a poll of radio listeners.
The 27-year-old, who was catapulted to fame in 2002 after winning the
inaugural Pop Idol contest, fought off competition from the likes of
Robbie Williams and Sir Paul McCartney to top the Music Week May Day
chart.

The annual chart celebrates the best of UK music counting down the 40
most popular artists of all time, as voted for by listeners of
commercial radio."

Nothing against Will Young but these listeners.............!

It's the same way that Westlife always win 'Record of the Year' with a
single they've released 1 week prior to the competition.

Well, obviously it just has to be Will Young. No one, but no-one has
had a bigger impact on the UK music scene than him.
Not only that but he can act too. And he's gay! Bravo I say. Mr Young
truely is a man of many talents.
All McCartney is famous for is being married to that lass with one leg!
Cheers

I have, that last single, "All time love"... what a dirge, it's time he fell
down the Pop Idol black hole!

Well at least Robbie "I didn't write Angles" Williams didn't win..

He has a fantastic, distinctive voice. But whoever voted for him in
this poll needs shooting.

Presumably not Classic FM then. Most surveys are just a form of marketing
with results that just happen to support what the company commissioning it
promotes. Could be interesting to compare the most popular singers as voted
by Radio 2 listeners to that voted by Kerrang FM.

I'm sure I recall Smash Hits recently having a poll of its readers as to
who they thought was the greatest artist of all time. And do you know
who they came up with? Apprently, the greatest artist of all time is...

Lee Ryan!

Lee friggin Ryan: *Theeee* *grrreatest* artist of *alllll* time!!!

<sigh> Words fail me. :-/

You read it wrong. They asked for the greatest *piss* artist of all time.

> <sigh> Words fail me. :-/

I don't understand how people can read Smash Hits when elephants are
being killed.

Reminds me of those "Top 100 songs of all time as voted for by you, the
listeners" so beloved of tinpot local radio on bank holidays... a few years
ago Will Smith's "Men In Black" was voted the 3rd best song of all time! It
had been released approx. 2 months earlier...
