The BBC has decided that Charles Saatchi is an appropriate sponsor for a
reality programme on "modern art".
The prize is an exhibition in Russia and a studio in London for 3 years.
Oh, plus the patronage of Charles Saatchi - which can make or break an
upcoming artist.
Aside from the arguments about this man's domination of contemporary art in
the UK, I have to wonder why his patronage is necessary for a BBC programme
about art when presumably such a lot is spent on such as Strictly Come
Dancing.
My point being, that the BBC gets our tax in order to Educate, Inform and
Entertain and yet the judgment of what is good and what is not is all down
to Mr Saatchi.
What else are they spending our license fee on that means we have to accept
this advert for Mr Saatchi's taste?

Ok, I know I'm replying to my own post, but there are enough quotes in this
show to fill a Daily Mail.
Tracey Emin (to a clearly talented professional artist) "Why didn't you go
to art school".
I would have answered so I didn't turn out shit like her, but the guy kept
his patience.
Really, this show is unbelievable and Tracey Emin has simply reinforced my
view that she is a talentless idiot trading off the patronage of the most
tasteless or emperors.
Fair enough

Wow, fantastic.

Its not necessary. Who said it was?

No, its just his opinion for this specific show, just like Strictly or any
other show with judges.

Do people still read that?

Good question to an artist type.

She is not shit, you just think she is. The people who make her rich by
buying her art disagrees with Mr Internet Poster.

I would have thought that anything could be seen by you are proof of
something you already "think".
Dude, this is a very long way of saying "I don't get modern art, and I don't
think any one else should". You are clearly no artist, so fuck off and let
them get on with it. Its what I do.

I do enjoy some modern art and I could have distilled my post to: I think
this show is a great idea but it doesn't have broad enough appeal. I was
dissapointed is all as I was looking forward to it. You are pretty much
correct in your assessment in a way though.
You could make the same point about SirAlan, Lloyd Webber, Simon Cowell and
numerous chefs. The public likes celebrity judges - regardless of how naff
or deranged the judgements turn out to be.
