Hia ll,

A real teaser this .. I think.

I have vivid recollections of this song -"Balro" (sometimes known as
"Le Baylere" or "The Shepherd's Song") as the theme song of a tv series
I used to watch as a child in the 1960's. I cannot recall much about it
.. maybe french tv program .. children...beach....

Anyone know ?

Thanks,

Howard

PS: Recebtly on Katherin Jenkins' Album "Premiere"

I know what you mean - it's a beautiful piece of music.

A version was used on a TV advert in the late 1970s (IIRC). It might
just have been the early 1980s, but "late 1970s" is speaking more loudly
to me.

I think the general image portrayed in the ad was (probably French)
pastoral tranquility and community, and it was probably advertising a
foodstuff which benefits from such associations (bread, butter, or
margarine-type spread... maybe even cheese).

It was certainly that particular exposure which let me hear it for the
first time, and, I would suspect, many others in the UK. I liked it
immediately. I have a version on a Naxos CD: "Chants D'Auvergne".

A bit of interwebbing, I am retired, would suggest it was used in a
Dubonnet ad and was sung by Joanne Brown, I'm still looking for the 60's
TV programme :-)

Well hunted, but I don't think that that is the version used in the ad I
remember.

I have been trying to answer the same question. Was it Belle and Sebastian about a French boy who had a large white Pyrenean dog. If it was that programme the music made a huge impression on me and I have never lost my love of it. I am sure it was a childrens’ TV programme and not an advert.

"Bailero" was certainly used in an advert (1970s, I should think).

It was by the Tony Osborne sound and as far as I know is available on 45 single or LP, was also used by independent local radio for test transmissions in the 70's.

Wasn't it used on an advert in the 1970s?

Perhaps for butter (or margarine)?
