Whilst everyone seems to be taking the Trans-Nostalgia Express....

GILBERT'S FRIDGE!!

Surely this was the best tv program ever? It was on in 1987/88? Phil
Cornwell (if that's his name?) was brilliant as Gilbert and he
assembled a cast of STARS like John Sparks and that bloke who plays
the big doctor off Casualty.
Dear Diary....day twelve of my holiday and I've fell in love (with a
plant)
<to Brother Beyond> Smashing! Luvvly!
I remember a sketch with Dieter Meier from Yello where Gilbert started
in full art-dealer voice trying to flog him this scrawl he'd done and
then opted for "sniff - awwww go awn! anyfink! price of a cuppa tea?"
And the one where he was trying to become Kim Wilde's agent but only
if she'd go on after an enormous toad. 'He's HUGE! Simply HUGE!'
Have I missed a previous thread about GF or am I <gulp> alone in this
sad Geordie world
P'raps it's just me. Ahhh well, you cun alwus dreeeeam!

Gilbert the green alien with dodgey sinuses, who used to spray slime over
everyone/everything in sight? I remember him from 'Get Fresh' - IMO the
last Saturday morning prog to be worth watching - at least Janet Street
Porter made _one_ half decent programme in her career :)

FWIW, we used to have a teacher called Mr Gilbert - he tended to get
lumbered with teaching/keeping in control the 'rougher' element of the
school [which at that time was 3rd in the Thames Valley Police juvenile
offenders league table]. Every time he took registration he would be
greeted with shouts of 'Get Fresh'....

At that time I thought he was one of the best things on telly - I wonder
what happened to Gilbert, and who owns the rights to him [was Gilberts
fridge produced by Yorkshire?]

IMO he knocks spots off all the new breed of kids TV puppets [and all the
human presenters as well....]

So is _that_ where this song came from? I remember people used to sing it
in maths lessons at school to piss off teachers :) Anyone here remember
'Your Mother Wouldn't Like It' [produced by Central Nottingham around the
same time]?

Excuse the two above, my Netscape had a bit of a fit £%!"*&£%!"(£.

Dear concerned of Bermondsey,

I haven't seen any GF threads since starting to read this group but you
are not alone, I too remember Gilbert's Fridge.

The theme music by the Pogues was enough to get me going. I loved the way
the human presenters would be trying to ask serious questions and gilbert
would be mumbling away in the background doing superb impressions of
David Coleman etc. and other surrealist stuff.

Can't say I know many facts about the show like who did the credits, but
hell why be concerned about these things. If anyone has any pictures or
samples of the G himself I'd be very interested, any idea if video is
available.

IIRC, didn't Cornwell also do one half of the Mick ' n' Keef on the
old Steve Wright breakfast show? There were some rumours that he'd get
his own comedy show but nothing ever appeared. The man's a fucking
genius and he's nowhere to be seen and meanwhile exhausted talents
like F&S keep on churning out flagship series. There's something wrong
there....

I've got about five of the series on tape but it's a bit fizzy. If you
want, I could do you copies if you send me the tape(s). I don't think
Central would mind since they didn't give a toss about the original
series.

Can any more knowledgable UKMTVM-type shed any more light on Gilbert
and his creator?

Anyone want to start a mailbomb campaign to get him his own prime-time
series?

Cheers,
Jyoti

Missed Glam Metal Detectives, then?
