Did anyone see "Art Attack" this morning (ITV, Sunday, 15th June 2003)
There was this bit where they made a picture of a camel and pyramids in
sand - I'm dying to find out what the music that was playing while he was
doing it, I've heard it on TV a lot and have no idea what it is, and it's
been bugging for for a good few years now.
Does anyone know the track? It's a kind-of rock-ish guitar-instrumental
thing...
Thanks!

Didn't see it (no ITV over here, thank god!) but I'm guessing Classical Gas?
Cheers
Jeff
That narrows it down a bit then!

I didn't see the episode in question, but I doubt you'll be able to get
hold of the music you're after. All music in this programme is made
especially by a company called "Mr Miller & Mr Porter" - and they do a
lot of music for such programmes.

They tend to do a lot of this type of stuff in Art Attack, and I must
confess I've heard some absolute beauties by them (as well as some
rubbish). I used to work on the Art Attack website (the majority of the
makes on the AA website were written by me) and I was responsible for
doing a lot of the RealPlayer capturing of the big Art Attacks.
As a consequence, I heard a lot of the music, and if I'd thought of it
earlier, I would have got more MP3s of them. As it happened, I only got
one of a great reverb-filled mild-rock electric guitar instrumental with
some cool bass and a great drum beat :-)
As it stands, I doubt you'll find the music available from anywhere. You
could try e-mailing them directly... they do say MP3s are available for
some pieces. It can't hurt to try !

I hope this has been of some use.

He he - I know!! I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have absolutely
*no way* of describing it - at least if there was vocals it would be easier
to find...!

Interesting... however, this piece of music I'm pretty sure was not written
especially for this program - I've heard it at least three times now over
the past couple of years - once on CH4 trailing the film "Untamed Heart",
and once on a holiday programme I think... So it's either a library track or
an album recording...

Er, that could be the track..!! :)

Thanks Eddie, I appreciate the reply...

A-ha. Perhaps it could be then. I don't remember any similar precedents
in all the work I did for series 13 and 14 but I started to lose
attention at the mind-numbing tediousness of my job after a day or two !

Heh. It probably isn't as the picture he made in the episode that this
was from was on grass, if I remember rightly. It was two years ago now so
my memory is a bit crap on these things. I just remember being slowly
brainwashed by Mr Miller and Mr Porter's music...
If you want a copy of the MP3 of the episode I'm talking about, just ask.
I'll upload it for you. You never know, you might hate it...

No probs. I wish you luck in your search. And if you do find it, let me
know... as I might like to hear it !

He he - having listened to some stuff from their website, I know what you
mean... :-)

If you don't mind, that would be great - a long shot I konw, but this has
been bugging me for years, so I'm willing to try anything... if you could
email it to b...@benhall.co.uk or stick it on the web somewhere and chuck me
the url I'd appreciate it...

Will do! Thanks again...

Maybe they reused the tune from Art Attack in other programmes they were
commissioned to do the music for, and that's how you've heard it
elsewhere ?
It's a shame this as my old boss from when I worked on the AA website is
still maintaining it, as far as I know, but I've since lost touch with
him. If I hadn't, I could probably have got this tune for you no problem.

Here is the URL for the file.
http://www.eddiebernard.myby.co.uk/yes/untitled2.mp3
(about 2.6MB ~ slightly fuzzy sound as recorded off VHS)
I doubt it's what you were looking for originally, but hey it might
provide a brief diversion. Or maybe not :)
Let me know what you think.

This is really interesting - it's *not* the track I'm looking for, but is
stylistically very similar. *Very* similar. (Apart from the guitar widdlings
in the middle he he :)
Similar enough that the track I'm trying to locate could well be from
them...

Which is very possible, on repeated listenings.
I think I might drop them a line... Cheers Eddie, this might well lead
somewhere... :-)
I appreciate you taking the time to do this, it may well be the key to
finding it at last...
Will let you know what I find out...

No joy I'm afraid - apparently the music on the UK versions of Art Attack
(for a number of reasons) is library only, and Messrs Miller & Porter redo
the music for the international versions only.
The mp3 you sent me isn't one of theirs, and is also in fact a library
piece - and therefore so is the track I'm looking for...
Oh well... It's just gonna have to continue to bug me..!

Interesting. I wonder why they get credited on the UK versions then if
they don't do anything ?

Dagnammit. Bloody library tracks. Someone must be composing them !
> Oh well... It's just gonna have to continue to bug me..!
Never mind. Maybe you're just not meant to find out ;)
I'm curious to hear it myself now. I'm sure it will be repeated again on
telly, but the problem will be knowing when it's going to happen so a
video can be set. I have no idea which series they're re-running at the
moment. At a push, I'm guessing it's the most recent (series 15) so
there's a good chance it will be on again, if not on terrestrial but on
satellite.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
