The BBC's Simon Dee rang up Lulu in Madrid where she was rehearsing, called
her "Lu" and asked her who was going to win.
Lulu said she thought a little Spanish boy had a great chance with a song
called 'Mama'.

Guess what!

We WON!
We were trailing 3 others till right at the end we caught up and Lulu was
one of FOUR joint winners and, amazingly, they had 4 trophys available.
They changed the rules after that!
IIRC, the Spanish boy was one of the winners.

<g> I dozed thru most of it, but we picked up a few points - outdid Ireland,
possibly - Norton fancied Ireland!

I watched it (under duress) and was puzzled about how it was stage-managed.
The interval between the end of one awful presentation and the start of the
next was about one minute, possibly two and yet it must take 5 or 10 minutes
for the new group to set up. Do they film it all and edit? or are there
revolting stages?

it's all live - i too wondered how they managed to change staging so
quickly.

At one point during the voting the caption showing which country had been
awarded twelve points came up on screen before it had been declared.

Spain were one of the joint winners, but with "Vivo Cantando". "Maman, Maman" (sung by 12-year-old Jean Jacques) was the Monaco entry (and came 6th).

Thanks for that, Andrew - the following is something I posted to
rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1960s - the video has a couple of LOL moments - it's
the flipside of Boom Bang-a-Bang..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOVQ4vAmM7Y&list=PL9730AC7BF0D165AB

In 1969 Lulu was joint winner with 3 other countries of the Eurovision
Song Contest.

Part of Lulu's contract with the BBC was to sing the UK Entry which
was picked from a selection of 6 (A Song For Europe) to be chosen by
viewers.

This one wasn't the most popular, but it's a foot-tapper! :D
