Am I totally miserable in hating this whole thing? The forced camaraderie,
equally false jollity, back slapping self congratulations and stars pushing
their faces in front of the camera - often to plug their own agenda (I'm
looking at *you* John Barrowman).

I think Terry Wogan can do no wrong by they way.

Is this the only way of raising this money I wonder?

Although not bad telly, I thought that jolly around the world in 88
days was completely over the top.

Not least the flying in and out of the various presenters at each
stage (Business Class I wonder).

But the real ‘let them eat cake moment’ had to be the arrival back at
Paddington where a local handicapped kids project, that had been
featured as a recipient project, met our intrepid travellers to bus
them over to the Reform club for the celebrity bean feast reunion
party.

The handicapped kids were wished farewell and thank you, at the door
to the club.

I resolve never to see one second of the wretched thing, so I
can't comment on how awful this years' is, though I know it is :)

I've heard it said that these charity extravaganzas don't even
raise additional funds for charity over the year, but merely
concentrate it at various focal points.
So it's a complete waste of time and money.
Presumably people give to CIN and then don't bother at
other times.

If a charity is worth giving to then it should be worth it on
it's own merits, rather than to go through this ridiculous
palaver every year.

I'm currently staying at my parent's house whilst back working over
here and they watch it all every year (not that they ever contribute
any towards it the tight sods!). So I'm busy trying to avoid the
living room this evening. Hopefully they'll be off to bed soon and
watch it there so I can have the big TV to myself.
Cheers

I don't even mind giving to the charity itself to be honest,
I was at the supermarket earlier and there was a bucket
at the checkout and I put some money in that.
And this was before the programme had even strarted, so
you see, I don't need all this nonsense to get me to give
to charity :)

Dunno didn't watch , never have.

We watched Trainspotting instead as my eldest hasn't seen it. Damn it's
a good film.

Watching Trainspotting with someone who hasn't seen it before but has
had it recommended to them beats Tezza any day!

I saw bits of this - Alesha singing a song that came out a year ago or
so, Peter Kay (probably telling the same jokes from 10 years ago) and
Eastenders kids singing, which just made me wish for some of those
sticky bombs from the Ballad of Gay Tony :)

Anyway, you should help and raise loads of money today for BBC In Need
2009 - Mark Thompson's 70p parking tickets don't pay themselves!

Normally I defend this sort of thing, but I only ever watch the bits that
interest me. This year the only interesting bit was the Doctor Who bit. The
charity is fine and noble, and I fully support the BBC doing this kind of
thing, but the show is so terrible and frankly unprofessional. Why the hell
is CiN the only live show where cockups happen all over the place? Other
live shows seem able to remain professional. Worse still its still looks
like some thing trapped in a time warp.

IMHO, the whole idea needs a revamp. Its got beyond the point where one can
forgive it for being a charity.

How the hell is this guy considered funny?

I heard a bit of him on BBC R1 the other morning. His "jokes" consist of
lines like "remember Imperial leather?", at which point Moyles and co fell
about laughing. No joke, just the mention of random 70's (apparently)
domestic products. But no actual joke or even cheap sarcasm. Not even an
amusing delivery.

Usually, even if I don't personally like a given comedian, I can see why
others do. But I honestly don't get Peter Kay in any way. More over I don't
get why he is suddenly seen as an essential addition to any TV charity
event.

You're going to have to connect the dots for me on this one. AFAIK there's
absolutely NO connection between CIN and legitimate expenses claims. Or
perhaps you're just trolling for the sake of it :-)

Well I didn't see any *major* ones in the first part. Haven't watched the

No, nothing major, lots of little ones. In many ways, you can forgive a huge
cock up and those can be very funny, but all the little ones make the whole
thing look so uncared about. Its like they cant be arsed. If they can't be
arsed, why should any one else.

I wish all artists would only play tracks that are a year old as the
one thing that pisses me off about CIN, is the way that musicians
graciously give up their free time to perform their new single in
front of millions of people. If I ran the show I'd insist that artists
could only play tracks that have been released at least a few months ago.
At least Taylor Swift had the decency to make a pretty large personal
donation.
