Is it my imagination or is the picture quality for the new Simpsons episodes
on Channel 4 not as good as that of the older episodes?

The colouring of older episodes is more muted, yes, not sure if that's an
artisti change or a format problem. But it's a good yardstick for guessing
if the episode's going to be shit or not. If the Simpsons all look drawn
stranger it'll be "good story, not that funny", if they're a bit pale it's
"hilarious" and if they're insanely bright it's "unfunny and a sad spectacle
to see a once great show turn to shit... yet still have a devoted following
and clutch of awards".

Some of the episodes show some odd motion artifacts which are typical
of 525/60 to 625/50 standards conversion done by the colonials, that
would explain the colour shift as well. Looks like C4 didn't manage to
get decent quality sources for them.
