There appears to be some interest expressed recently in associating
actor names with their alias names.

Attached is my first list of such associations. It has several blanks
and members of the group *may* wish to provide details of persons missing
or complete details where only part of the name is given.

It is facinating to note how easily names that were household names only
a few years ago have slipped from the memory.

Does anyone remember the major campaign on Merseyside in which the public
demanded the freedom from jail of one of the Brookside residents who was
"stitched up" for a crime that he did not commit?

Was Alexandra Pigg the first to leave the close? I recall that she was
portrayed as having some mental difficulties in the time following her
waking up next to a corpse. No wonder she felt moved to write a letter
to the then president of the Soviet Union!!

Anyway, all additions to the list would be welcome.
Can anyone spot the interloper(s) - the entry/ies on the list for one
or more person who has never lived on the Close or the Parade?

The interest expressed has been mainly in using the characters name,
that way we all know whos being talked about.

Now your telling me I have to learn a 100 or so names, just so as to
understand the posts ?

This IS supposed to be the Brookie Newsgroup, its best we use the
character names, rather than the actors, which is a waste of time,
effort and irrelevant.

Its not logical Captain !

Thank you Dave for this info which brings back fond memories.

How could I have forgotten Nicola Stephenson and - Moore her
priestly consort?

> Alan (is THAT your real name, or are you an actor playing the part of
> A Rayner??),

To the best of my knowledge and belief it is my real name. However,
there was some talk of me being a "changeling"!!

> > Name Alias
> > ------------------- ---------------------
> > BECK, Robert -, Peter

> Peter PHELAN (Fi's Brother)

I am not sure about this one. Is there not a confusion with Samuel
Kane who has just been discarded by Claire Sweeney?
Robert Beck was a rape suspect and lived at number Nine after his
parents (his mother being head teacher at the local Comprehensive
for a while) moved out of the area.

> > EASTER, David -, Pat

> Pat HANCOCK (Hospital Porter)
Yes. He used to sell vegetables out of an old ambulance. Nowadays he
has a drug racket in Charnham.

> > FRIEL, Anna -, -

> Beth JORDACH (Lover of Margaret CLEMENCE)

With a final e to make Jordache I believe.
Her lesbian scene with Nicola Stephenson gained more notoriety than
it deserved but Nicola got more publicity later for her part in a
police story set on another Northern housing estate.

> > GRIER, Sheila -, Sandra

Did she not have a child that was supported by Sue Johnston for a while?

> > KERRIGAN, Patricia -, -

Yet another woman who admired Paul Usher!

> > MAITLAND, Sandra -, -

Sandra was Anna Friel's mother. She moved to Bristol to work in a
Women's refuge after having a child with Michael Starke. Her daughter
Tiffany Chapman sustained a failed marriage recently.

> MAXWELL, William Jack SULLIVAN (Terry's Dad)

William used to have great cameo roles as Santa Claus for several
years in the old days.

> > PEASGOOD, Julie -, Fran
> Fran PEARSON (Mother of Barry's child)

It is interesting that Julie Peasgood currently advertises Peas!

> > PELKA, Kazia -, Anna
> Anna WOLSKA

Kazia, of course, has moved to Yorkshire (despite living in London
as per a recnet Radio time article) and become a health visitor.

> > PIGG, Alexandra -, -
> Petra TAYLOR

Her husband used to keep refrigerators on the grass outside number six
but that was before Mersey Television bought the Parade and so could
store the refrigerators in Michael Starke's shop. Incidentally, who
does the window cleaning nowadays. Have they all followed the example
of Louis Emerick and taken to doing it themselves?

> > ROTHWELL, Alan BLACK, -

Married to Amanda Burton for a while.

Malcolm Tierney had a certain style.

Correction accepted but there was another character with the name
WITHE because it was potentially confusing.
Who was that other character?

This guy had an alias of Alan Partridge but I forget his real name.

Yes I overlooked her - shame on me!

Yes. This topic could be a real memory jerker!!

The alias of the Cortina owner was Frank Rogers. He died in a vehicle
accident I believe but his daughter Diane Burke lives on to continue
working in the office of Georgia Reece on the Parade as well as being
a confidante to Alexandra Fletcher.

> Also Just remembered David (?) Yip (the chinese detective)
He had a father from Hong Kong who ran a restaurant, I believe.

In order for people to communicate effectively, it usually helps if
they communicate in the same language. It seems that everybody in this
group is able to speak the same language, but you choose to speak a
different one (for some strange misguided reason I still fail to
understand[1]) and have provided a dictionary so that WE can translate
what YOU have to say. So, instead of 99% of this group spending it's
time translating your posts (which I for one will not be doing) don't
you think it would be more polite if you used a language that we ALL
speak?

[1] I'm sure I'm missing several posts in this debate due to my ISP,
but from what I've seen in follow-ups, I still can't understand your
arguments for confusing fiction with RL.

His wife was Chrissie, and she wasn't Bev's Sister. Bev's sister was

Only just remember Sizzler (can't remember the actor's name), and T
McArdle has been mentioned in my previous posts.

Well, thanks for the list Alan, although this in no way alters the
fact that you are full of the brown stuff regarding your refusal
to use character names.
However, they are not alias names they are character names. There
are actors (these days generally used as a non-gender specific term
to denote males and females) and there are the parts they play:
the characters. Try and employ a few basic facts when writing in.
More below:

Although given the names you choose to use all the time they
probably never were household names (although the characters once
were, perhaps.) :-) :-)

There you bloody well go again, do you mean the "free George Jackson
campaign"?? I don't know if it was (presumably you can't answer me
as you can't even bring yourself to mention character names in
conversation even. 'Yes, I believe it was said alias that you
mentioned on line 13 - 14') but the way you wrote that sounds
ridiculous and most POMPOUS.

As for Alan's arguments for deliberate confusion - they are

Someone asked if there was three Corkhill kids - no just Rod and
Trace. However, there was Sheila's young daughter Claire (was she
listed by anyone? sorry I couldn't read all the lists) - maybe you
were thinking of her as she lived in Billy Corkhill's house when
Sheila moved in with him (before they moved away.)

Yes but Frank and Chrissie (mother of Katie, Sammi and a son Geoff
I think) split up. Frank got together with Lynn some time after the
split up. In fact he and Lyn got married and that is when a drug
crazed Jimmy Corkhill caused the fatal accident that killed Frank
and Tony Dixon. Jimmy was driving the other way on the road as
Frank drove the wedding roller to the reception. Lyn was just
pregnant by Frank and newly bereaved she entered a big 'will'
haggle, mainly led by the spiteful selfish Sammi. She lost the
baby. Bev, Lynn's younger sister, had caused the break up of
Lynn's first marriage by having an affair with her husband. She was
reknown for this sort of behaviour and she tried it on with Frank
- but he resisted, cos' he lurvved Lynn. Not surprising Bev got off
with Ron as he was an older man and still married, (albeit it
unhappily), and this was her predilection at the time. Ron's wife
of course was holy Dee-Dee.

I don't think Ron had a fling with Lyn did he? I thought it was with
Jackie Corkhill in the stock cupboard (this was like a dry run for
the 1996 fling), then Jackie backed out and wouldn't go for a
weekend to Southport (or wherever) then a few weeks later it was
Bev. on a dirty weekend with him.

Yes, well remembered - Debbie used to visit SHEILA GRANT with said

in memory of poor young Damon??

No Sandra wasn't Anna Friel's mum - if someone is a mum, they stay
a mum, you can't say 'was a mum'. I believe Anna Friel's mum is a
Mrs. Friel, she certainly didn't appear in Brookside.
Sandra didn't move to Bristol to work in a women's refuge.
However, Mandy Jordache did in the story.

Interestingly you insist on using actor names and not fictional
names yet you will allow yourself to mention fictional places that
people go to... ie the women's refuge that Sandra went to doesn't
exist - Sandra went to get more acting work.

Oh, come on, this is getting ridiculous. Sandra Maitland isn't Anna Friel's
mother - I *work* with Anna Friel's mother, and this statement was just the
last straw for me. I fail to see, despite reading all your arguments, why
you persist in your absurd practice of using actor names. I'm sure the
actors themselves would be the first to say that they do *not* want people
to think that they behave like their characters - but it would be very easy

I have no idea whether you mean the actress or the character here - if it
*is* the character, then it's surely a disservice to the actress to give
the impression that she's no longer an actress!

I agree wholeheartedly with the poster who pointed out that you expect *us*
to learn your "language" and have helpfully provided a "dictionary". Yes,
your posts are interesting, but it's too much effort to read them. I tend
to start reading them and almost immediately think "oh, no, it's that bloke
again". Personally, I read newsgroups for entertainment and relaxation as
well as information. I've tried for some weeks now to ignore what you're
doing - but life's too short. I really can't imagine why you find it
necessary to irritate *everyone* who reads this newsgroup (correct me if

Well said! I tried asking him nicely but he clearly isn't to be budged.
On the contrary I suspect he's gaining some sort of perverse pleasure
from this. I see no point in flogging a dead horse and am interested in
this killfile you and someone else mentioned. Off topic I know but could
anyone post instructions as to how to set up a killfile if it's not too
complicated.

Apologies if this upsets regular subscribers here but Mr Rayner is
really getting on my t*ts. He's in my kill file now (only the third
person i've had to do that ever in uk.media.tv.brookside) I have a
feeling that he's just here to wind us all up, and judging by the
number of postings in other newsgroups he has a lot of time on his
hands....

......just look at what Dejanews turns up in just over 2 months of
posting (no record exists of him before November 97...unless he's
changed email address).

Author: al...@lightnet.co.uk

286 unique articles posted.
Number of articles posted to individual newsgroups (slightly

Right ... and wrong.

Yes, Chrissie was Frank Rogers' first wife. But Lyn was Frank Roger's
second wife. Frank died on their wedding day as he was driving the posh
wedding car ... Frank swerved to avoid an a drug-crazed Jimmy Corkhill in
an oncoming car.

I don't recall Ron having any relationship with Lyn. Lyn met Frank after
her first husband died doing a lorry-driving run in place of Frank. Frank
"comforted" her following her loss ...

I must say thet this thread has degenerated into something rather silly,
hasn't it? I thought that it may be a discussion of our memories of
past characters, which indeed it could have been, had the actors' real
names not got in the way. Having said that there's no reason why anyone
has to mention the real names. I certainly don't attempt to remember
the credits and certainly don't have the book :)

It's probably a rare actor who wants their own name to be better
known that their character name... Certainly when they play
a character in a soap.
