'I wouldn't want to meet Tracy Corkhill' says Justine Kerrigan, 'and I
certainly wouldn't want to have my hair done by her'.
Quite. You always got the feeling with Tracy that she was likely to
slip concentrated acid into the perming lotion if it was a customer
she didn't like. Wilful, headstrong and often downright surly, Tracy
was no great loss to the diplomatic corps. Justine admits: 'At
first, a lot of people didn't like her. They used to think "Little
cow!" She wound people up and managed to fall out with everyone at
work.'
In fairness, being a Corkhill is not exactly the ideal start in life
but Tracy's attitude put everybody's back up. She could be as
stubborn as her father Billy. The atmosphere between the two wasn't
helped by Billy finding out about his daughter's relationship with
geography teacher Peter Montague. He received a three-month suspended

prison sentence for attacking Montague. Then Tracy had a long-term
boyfriend, the slovenly James Henderson. Billy didn't rate him but
Tracy got her own back when Billy became serious with Sheila Grant.
'She certainly didn't make it easy for Billy and Sheila,' says
Justine, 'but then she's never been afraid to speak her mind. I think
part of the problem was that she actually liked Sheila but didn't want
to.'
Possibly to spite Billy and Sheila, Tracy took up with Barry Grant
and, despite Barry's pleas, ended up having an abortion. 'That was a
really powerful storyline,' says Justine. 'Afterwards, I did get a
shock though when a girl I'd never met before came up to me in a
nightclub and started telling me about her abortion. Even though I
didn't want to, because it was nothing to do with me, I felt obliged
to listen.'
Justine Kerrigan has played Tracy for over seven years. Her
grandfather is veteran film and television actor Peter Kerrigan, best
remembered for his role in 'Boys from the Blackstuff'. 'It was my
grandfather who encouraged me to go for Brookside' she says.
Unlike Tracy, 21-year-old (*) Justine has settled down and is married
to computer expert Simon Kennedy. And in 1991, Tracy was sent off on
a world hairdressing cruise while Justine gave birth to daughter
Hollie.
Eagle-eyed Brookside viewers may remember that before appearing as
Tracy, Justine was briefly seen as one of Damon Grant's girlfriends.

Wouldn't it be great if some of the old Corkhills turned up again to visit
Jimmy and Jackie? Especially Tracy. She was quite foxy.
